Pokemon Type Swap 11 — Electric Totodile
Welcome to Pokemon Type Swap!
In this series i will be taking classic pokemon and changing their type — creating a new, fresh look. I am currently picking pokemon in no particular order and choosing a type i think would fit. Comment any suggestions for future ones below.
Todays pokemon is Totodile, i have chosen to draw it as an electric type.
I love how this one turned out and is one of my favourites so far.
Orginial Sketch & Outline
To make Totodile into an electric type i changed the spikes on his back to more of a thunder bolt shape. I changed the marking around hus eye to a bolt shape too. I also added a few more markings to its belly.
Colour & Shading
I went for a black and yellow scheme. I chose black as the main colour as i felt it made the yellow pop more and was different to the usual yellow electric types.
I then added shading and highlights to give it some shape.
Background
Since Totodile is still a crocodile i thought it should be beside water. Then i had the idea about it using the electric to hunt for food.
I added a glow from the scales on its back and lightening from the hands. I added some electric going through the water.
I felt all this was a bit much so i removed the lightening and kept the rest. I had plans to attempt to animate this but havent had the time.
