5 Fun Facts about Mickey Mouse - Trivia Tuesday #9

avatar

Trivia Tuesday is a series in which I choose a topic, and provide Fun Facts or Interesting Trivia about it. This time we'll be talking about Disney's top icon, Mickey Mouse!!

Mickey Mouse Trivia

1. Steamboat Willie

Mickey Mouse's debut was in 1928's short animated film "Steamboat Willie." It was significant at the time for the animation synchronization with sound.

I still haven't watched the full movie, but I watched parts of it before. I think it's a great piece of history of animation.

2. Public Domain

The film Steamboat Willie has entered the Public Domain as of January 2024. You can watch the whole film on the Internet Archive. You can also redistribute the film if the Copyright laws in your country allow it.

Mickey Mouse's character is still trademarked, though. Only his representation in the Steamboat Willie animation has entered the Public Domain.

3. Mickey's Falsetto Voice

Mickey Mouse's voice is characterized by a distinctive falsetto in his voice. It gives him a playful high-pitched voice that's easily recognizable.

A Falsetto, according to ChatGPT:

Falsetto is a vocal technique where a person, typically male, produces a higher pitch than their normal speaking or singing voice. It involves vibration of the vocal folds in a way that lengthens and tenses them.

Walt Disney himself provided the voice for Mickey Mouse in the 1929 Silly Symphony cartoon "The Opry House."

I didn't know this fact before I researched for this Trivia Tuesday entry, and I'm sure many of you readers don't know it yet.

4. TV Appearance

Mickey's first appearance on TV was in 1950 on "The Mickey Mouse Club."

He appeared in many TV shows after that..

5. Mickey's Timeless Design

Mickey Mouse's design evolved throughout the years, but all of his designs kept his Iconic Red Short, White Gloves, and Yellow Shoes.

The design was inspired by fashion at the time, and the contrast between Mickey Mouse's colors was necessary during the black-and-white era of animation.

I really love the design of Mickey Mouse and the simplicity of it. Especially his appearance in Kingdom Hearts series.

What do you think?

While I dislike hate most of Disney's recent decisions, I can't lie about the nostalgia I feel toward its early works. Mickey Mouse being one such character I have nostalgia for.

Most of the information in this post about Mickey Mouse is new info I didn't know about before researching for this Trivia Tuesday entry. I hope to do more character-specific ones like this one, but Mickey is the only Disney character I have in mind. I might go for Pokemon next, what do you think about that?

If you have an idea for the next Trivia Tuesday's Topic, suggest it in a comment below. For now, have a nice day/night.~
