5 More Fun Facts in Math! (Beginner Level) - Trivia Tuesday #7
Trivia Tuesday is a series in which I choose a topic, and provide Fun Facts or Interesting Trivia about it. This time the topic, again, is Math.
The fun facts I'll present today are easy to grasp, but you might not have heard about them before, so here you go:
Math Trivia: Beginner Level
2. 111,111,111 multiplied by 111,111,111
Equals: 12,345,678,987,654,321.
This was funny when I learned it, a number that counts from 1 to 9 and then counts backward to one. I made this number the cover image for this post.
2. Zero is an Even Number
The number 0 fits the definition of an even number.
- It's divisible by 2 into two equal integers. (0 + 0 = 0)
- Adding zero to any number maintains its parity. (0 + Even number = Even number.)
This is pretty basic, but I thought it'd be fun to mention it here. Speaking of numbers parities, I tend to favor Odd numbers more than Even numbers.
3. Hexagons and Tessellation
Hexagons are one of the most efficient shapes to use repeatedly to cover a space. It's theorized that it's the reason Bees use this shape to construct their Honeycombs.
Circles have gaps between them, and Squares waste a lot of space in their corners. Hexagons also offer structural stability.
Also, Hexagons are more beautiful than Squares. Well, at least in my Personal Opinion™.
4. Fibonacci Sequence
The sum of two preceding numbers produces the next number in the sequence: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21...
I learned this in a Computer Science course. This was one of the first programs they asked us to code using the recursion method.
5. The Pythagorean Theorem
In a right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. (a^2 + b^2 = c^2)
I was more interested in the term right-angled triangle than the theorem while researching fun facts for this post. I didn't know the English term for the right-angled triangle and only knew the Arabic name for it... Now I only have one question. Why "Right?"
What Do You Think?
This is the second week of Math Trivia. I learned so much while chatting with ChatGPT about math for this article. Math is all around us.
Next time, I might do something different or go back to Math for another week. I barely got this Trivia Tuesday post on time this week, so I'll be grateful (to myself) if I posted the next one earlier in the day.

I didn't know about the Hexagon... I thought it was cool!

2 is the most unique number in existence.
It is the only even prime number.
It is also the only number when multiplied by itself gives the same number as when you add it to itself - 0 excluded.
Also, an easy way to remember your 9 times table is reduce the last number by 1 while increasing each subsequent number by 1
