Pico World Race (PICO-8) - A Racing Game I Can Actually Play

Pico World Race is a polished 3D Arcade Racing Game for PICO-8. The game features multiple courses based on various countries in the world. Pico World Race boasts attractive visuals (for a PICO-8 game) and responsive controls.

Like most 3D Racing Games for the console, Pico World Race's art style is pixelated but colorful. Cars, tracks and objects are easy to distinguish from each other.

If you get off-track or your car gets damaged, the game puts you back on the track without losing progress. This fact saved me multiple times, since I'm not very good at controlling cars in racing games.

Some countries' racing courses are locked at first and that ties to the collectible aspect of Pico World Race. All levels have Pico Badges scattered around. Collecting these badges from different courses unlocks the additional courses. In this playthrough recording, I didn't focus on collecting them to unlock new countries.

I didn't find the option to change the player's car, but in this playthrough I didn't try the "Custom Race" option. Will have to check on that.

Pico World Race was an interesting PICO-8 game, and while I'm not thinking of playing it again, I got absorbed while playing it. I had wonderful time!

PICO-8 is a Fantasy Console designed to create, share and play small retro-inspired games. Games made for PICO-8 are constrained in aethistics, code and size to encourage creativity. PICO-8 comes with a built-in code editor, graphics, and sound tools. Games are distributed in image files called Cartridges.
