Weaving Her Home - Short Story

"Spidey held off her tears and steadily, steadily weaved her webs."

Weaving Her Home

She forced patience. She swallowed her desperation, she ignored her stress. She steadily, steadily weaved her web.

Spidey held off her tears as she remembered her broken home. The sanctuary that provided her rest, food, and company. She worked so hard on building it. Yet, it vanished in a moment. One monstrous hand took it all away.

She barely survived. The monster slammed his hand. Aiming for the Kill.

Spidey, the runaway finally found a place. Another sanctuary. She swore to make it bigger than her first. Fancier, sturdier than her former dwelling.

Spidey steadily, steadily weaved her new home.

The End

Author Notes

This is my entry to the first Dreemport challenge for June 2023. Prompt: "Thread." I had the idea written down, but couldn't post in it time for the challenge. I was supposed to publish this story last Thursday, but I got busy with LeoThreads's Challenges that I needed to do.

This is slightly based on a scene I saw in "I'm a Spider So What?" anime. Though the protagonist of my version is a normal Spider.

This is one of my simple drabbles, and I loved the emotions I put into it in so few words. I love to refer to Spiders creating their web as weaving. I tried to not use the word "thread" in the story itself but to make it clear that it passes for the prompt. I hope that I accomplished that.

What do you think?

I enjoyed making the drawings for this too, I might make a full post about the drawing so tell me if you wanna check it out.

This sounds like the childhood song a ti bey ti spider. Except it wasn't a rain that drove the spider away

Haven't hear about the song, (which culture/country is it from?) But this is a basic Spider story, the challenge was writing it in 100 words more than actually think of the story itself.

Thanks for reading. !LUV

Nigeria... It's a popular song I grew up singing as a church

Oh, it's nice to know that.

Since you sang it in a church, does the song has any religious themes or Aesops?

I love Spidey act of bravery. Not giving up even when someone ruined her peace, Instead, she found a way to make it more stronger.

I loved the idea while writing it too. Animals have many lessons for us to learn from.

I love her brave heart and being patient not to give up. This is just a moral that we shouldn't be afraid to Start over when our work is ruined. Instead, we should be brave and endure to do it again and not give up. The first lesson would teach us and make us learn to do it better than the first.

Yeah, the moral of the story that I wrote the story with. Don't be afraid of starting over. Your second attempt will be better than the first.

Though in the spider case, it's either doing that or dying so for her it's more of an Ultimatum than a choice. !LOLZ

What a concise way of painting Spidey's bravery. Hopefully one day, she'll need to stop running from the monsters

While writing the story, I imagined this monster to be a human, but for her, it's a monster. A really dangerous one.

...and Yeah, hope that one day she'll be able to be safe from them.

Spidey is the kinda lady to come back stronger after getting a punch on her face. Hehe. It's an interesting story of her resilience.

Also, she got a nice meal for herself afterwards... Haha... Spoilers!!! 😂
