Let's Play "HITBOX" (PICO-8) - A Tiny 3D Fighting Game
HITBOX is a 3D Fighting Game on PICO-8. The game doesn't have sound and the 3D aesthetics are very blocky. It looks like Virtua Fighter if it was released for the SNES. That's impressive when I think about it.
The game can be played Solo, against AI, or Versus, against other players. In my playthrough, I only tried the Solo play so I'll only be talking about that here.
HITBOX has three difficulty options for the AI and it hass three stages. (City, Subway Station and Parking Lot.) I tried all three stages, and won all my fights. I love the Subway Station level as the train in the background makes it looks cool!
Each character is massively customizable as you can change the color of each part of their body. I demonstrated these changes in my video.
I wish PICO-8 had more buttons as the moveset is limited with only two buttons, but considering the limitations, I think the moveset is great! I like how you can do four combo moves by mixing the buttons.
Another thing I wish is sound effects. I don't know if the creator chose to not add sound effects or if it wasn't possible due to PICO-8's limitations, but at least a sound bite would be great when a punch or a kick connects.
What do you think?
PICO-8 is a Fantasy Console designed to create, share and play small retro-inspired games. Games made for PICO-8 are constrained in aethistics, code and size to encourage creativity. PICO-8 comes with a built-in code editor, graphics, and sound tools. Games are distributed in image files called Cartridges. In this series of videos, I discover great games made on this Fantasy Console, letting you discover these games with me.
This playthrough on a Linux (PopOS) laptop.
Thanks for Watching!

Looks like a fun retro game console.
Might be old enough to be a collector's item or something 😂😂
PICO-8 is a fantasy console, not an actual device, and it was released in the 2010s, but it has the limitations similar to a 8-bit era console.
