Saturday Savers 2024 Progress Report - Week 4
It's Saturday and time for my weekly #SaturdaySavers update !
Also, for the first time in ages it feels like the weather is starting to show signs of spring. Lots of birds in the garden, and the first shoots of snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells are poking up, although no sign of any frogs in the pond yet.

Here's my table of progress for the week;
How Did The Week Go ?
Posting & Engagement
Last week was a little bit of a low post count week. I kind of knew January would be like that; it's the busiest month of the year for work, and my main focus last week was getting both the annual tax return and last quarter's VAT return finished and submitted to HMRC.
But despite not doing quite as many posts as I'd like, I was still able to keep up with curation and other forms of engagement, so post count is the only metric still slightly in the red.
HBD
I've managed to keep up with my objective of DCA'ing into HBD by a target amount each week. But I have to admit it was through gritted teeth due to the drop in the price of HIVE. I can only hope that the loss on the exchange rate will be soaked up by the extra interest gained in investing earlier rather than later.
Going forward, I'm going to set myself some parameters that allow me to break this goal. Basically, if the HBD interest rate changes, we get to within 10% of the debt ratio, or the difference between what I paid for liquid HIVE and it's current value is greater than about £0.05, then I'll pause with the intention of catching back up when the numbers are more favourable. Yeah, I know it's a cop out.... 😁
LEO
You'll see that my LEO spiked. I moved some liquid HIVE over into SWAP.HIVE and bought 469 LEO, added some from my liquid LEO and staked 500. The plan is to see what the returns on LeoAds look like with just this initial toe-dipping exercise. I'll need to buy some more LEO before next month's LPUD.
Delegations
I've been creeping my delegations up to both @eds-vote and @leo.voter for the last couple of weeks. Although it's too early to see the impact it has on EDS, I'm definitely seeing a steady increase in the number of LEO tokens I'm getting each week.
So that was my week - how was yours ?
If you're not familiar with SaturdaySavers, it's a fabulous initiative run by @shanibeer writing as @sally-saver on the @eddie-earner account, where we all support each other in getting to our savings goals.
If you are one of my friends reading this (or just someone who tripped over one of my posts), I really recommend this as a great community that's well worth joining.
I'm normally very disorganised about saving, and the support of the wonderful people in #SaturdaySavers has been invaluable in keeping me focused. I can honestly say that without it, my HP would probably be half what it is now.
So join ! You don't have to wait until the start of the year. The best time to start saving is ten years ago. The second best time is right now !

Since my initial goal was more about writing I have not paid a lot of attention to the monetary aspect of our activity here. I have been reading the Saturday savers posts from people I follow but I must admit I am a bit lost around it. I might need to check out the SaturdaySavers community and learn more. It might not be a bad idea to get some goals in place even if that was not my primary aim.
Thank you for the post @alonicus. Despite my own confusion the way you have stated your plans and results is very well written. It shows a very organized mind imo.
Thank you ! The creative writing is still my main focus here; Hive is very much an escape from a busy and stressful "real life". But the competitive part of me still likes to see the account growing !
One of the biggest issues (and also benefits) of Hive is that it offers such a huge variety of ways to earn tokens of all kinds. Reading other people's SaturdaySavers updates is a great way to learn about some of the most effective methods. Creating our own goals puts some structure around it, and we all support each other in learning and getting to the goals.
Yup, all the tokens are quite confusing. I keep telling myself I will understand it eventually :)
You've made some pretty nice gains since the start of the year across the board - nice work.
I dont think its a cop out to change goals, especially where prices change. HBD is a great example. I would love to start building up an HBD stack, but I just wont do it while the price of HIVE is so low. It rather dump it all in HIVE, and then when the price of HIVE goes back up (heres hoping !) I can then change some of that HIVE back into HBD at a much better price - aint nothing wrong with that !
Best of luck for the coming week !

First thing I noticed was your spike in Leo, it's quite something 😀.
Love your plans and how you're executing them.
Thank you ! We're only on week 4 and I've already realised that the plans need more flexibility to react to real world events as well as improvements within Hive 😀
Flexibility is something a plan really needs.
Although if it's too flexible, it's no longer a plan is it?
I'm thinking of changing my plans too starting this Saturday.
I've noticed some flaws and some spaces for improvement.
