The repetitive thud of a battering ram. Bowstrings twanging, the defenders desperately try to fend off the besieging army. Behind the gatehouse, armoured warriors tip a wagon over and throw barrels and crates around it to create a hastily improvised barricade.
It won't be long now..... spears and halberds are braced ready to receive a wave of invaders. Crossbowmen stand ready, fingers on firing levers.
The great iron-bound doors are showing cracks. Cracks that grow wider with every crashing impact of the ram. The hinges are shivering, bolts loosening in the stonework and the pins working free under the strain.
Then, with a great groan, the double gates come apart, crashing down to reveal the horde of fierce Welshmen waiting on the threshold.
The vision fades. "And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the tale of the great siege of 1316. Welcome to Dinefwr Castle, I hope you enjoy your visit."
Morwen turned to her elderly father, "What a wonderful guide ! She really brings the story to life, it's almost as if you're there, seeing and hearing it all first hand !"

I was fully expecting an intense medieval battle, and then it’s just a tour guide giving a history lesson. Honestly, I'd probably be just as impressed as Morwen lol
