It's a Trap !

This photo was taken by my wife today. It looks cute and a bit dappy, doesn't it.

But don't be fooled. This is Duncan in ambush mode.

We call it the "Dunky Tummy Trap".

When you inevitably fail to resist the temptation to stroke that luxurious, soft fluff, he'll strike !

Faster than you can get your hand out of the way, those cute upturned paws will grab your wrist in a hug, trapping your hand. Then the teeth will bite, and the back legs will rake, and you'll be trapped in a whirlwind of fangs and claws.

He may look all sweet and innocent, but he wants to let us know that millions of years ago, our ancestors were dumb apes wandering the African plains, and his ancestors were the leopards that ate ours for lunch.

We must never be allowed to forget this. Timely (and savage) reminders will be issued at unpredictable intervals.

Meanwhile, this is Duncan and Stevie (from next door) supervising me earlier today as I work packing orders.....

Hahaha I remember my cat Pandora used to do this, she was such a cute fluffy grey cat, but she had some serious skills and fury that she wasn't afraid of showing off.

Dunky is still learning how to cat - he came to us from a really bad situation, rescued by the RSPCA, and hadn't been socialised or seen outdoors except for one escape attempt. Stevie is helping, but leading him astray a bit as well !

I've already had to explain that dropping a live frog at the bottom of the stairs is a nice present, but maybe not something to repeat.
