Saturday Savers 2023 Progress Report Week 49

It's Saturday again, 3 weeks until we get to the end of the year and find out if we've hit our #SaturdaySaver goals ! Here's this week's update...

Review of the week

It's been a relatively quite week for me, mostly because I've been pretty busy with that "real life" thing.

I managed to get access to my Coinbase account back, so was able to transfer funds into liquid HIVE. I used a little of it to boost my HBD holdings. 50 HIVE converted to 19.35 HBD, which is reasonable considering that the original LTC I'd bought in Coinbase had gone up in value enough that I was able to get about 30 HIVE more than I had expected.

It looks very much like I won't hit either my HP or HBD targets for the year. I expect to miss my HP target by about 350 and my HBD target by about 130. But I'm not too upset because a few months into 2023, when HIVE was a lot cheaper, I changed my goals with some pretty significant increases. So I well and truly hit my original goals, it's more a case of not hitting updated goals that would only have been realistic if the HIVE price had stayed around the £0.20 mark. I'd rather have a better price on HIVE !

Curation vs Author Rewards

Something I make sure to do each day is use up my upvotes. Even if I'm far too brain dead to write a post it's relatively easy to do, and reading other people's posts can be quite relaxing. Educational, even - I've learned a lot about how people all around the world really live !

If anything, I find I haven't got enough vote power, and frequently drop below the 80% level where it recharges in a day. I've even tried dropping my vote down to around 50% for a lot of posts, it's not because I don't like what you've written, it's just about trying to spread the curation a bit further.

While I appreciate it's a very passive way to engage with content people have put a lot of effort into creating, I still think it's worthwhile. My upvotes give them a bit of a boost, and in turn I earn from it.

Looking at Hivestats, this is my current scorecard;

When I compare it with other people, my curation APR is 5-6% above a significant number of users, and around a quarter of my earnings have come from curation, which is only growing as the HP it is based on increases. Yes, it also tells me I need to post more !

If you are reading this and not using up your vote power, it is worth doing ! Not just because you can earn from it, but also because it's an incredibly easy way to give back to the community.

I particularly like to upvote posts that haven't been picked up by curation trails, because those are the authors who just aren't getting a decent reward for their effort and are therefore more likely to give up on Hive at a time when user retention is a priority for all of us.

I'm normally very disorganised about saving, and the support of the wonderful people in #SaturdaySavers has been invaluable in keeping me focused. I can honestly say that without it, my HP would probably be half what it is now.

So join ! You don't have to wait until the start of the year. The best time to start saving is ten years ago. The second best time is right now !
