Saturday Savers 2023 Progress Report Week 52 - End of Year Roundup
Woo-hoo ! We made it to the end of the year !
Here's my #SaturdaySavers update - a day late, mostly because I've spent the last 48 hours laid up sick in bed, but it also means that it's right on the year end so I can report full-year figures.

Here's the spreadsheet for the end of the year....
Did I hit my goals ?
Hive Power
I'll call this a "sort of". I originally set a goal of aiming to gain 2500 HP in the year, on top of a starting balance of 3153. Then in a wave of over-enthusiasm I increased it to a gain of 4750. Well, I got to 4400 gain, so more than doubled my Hive Power. I didn't hit the full goal, but smashed the original one. Considering the nightmarish year we've all had, I think that's still a win !
There was another goal I quietly set myself in the background, and it looks like this;
HBD
This one fell short - I gained 768 out of a goal of 900 growth. But again, that was an increased target, up from 650. So I'd have hit that if I had left the goal untouched. The main reason HBD failed to hit target was that I stopped pushing fiat into it as the price of HIVE dropped and the US Dollar crashed in relation to Pounds Sterling. I plan to push more into HBD next year....
LEO
This was a definite win. I set a goal of growing my LEO by 1800, and actually gained 2004. Quite a lot of it had to be bought rather than earned, but my plan for next year is to increase LEO-earning delegations (both HP and Tribe Tokens) to reduce the fiat cost. I may also try to post more in InLeo to earn some that way - most of my posts at present are in other communities.
And again, I managed to achieve a personal goal I set myself at the beginning of the year;
EDS
I set myself a fairly modest goal with EDS, and hit it with no problem. In 2024, I'm going to be a bit more ambitious, and plan to set myself an actual target for growing my delegation to @eds-vote because I've realised that if I don't, it won't happen !
SBI's
I think I got carried away with this one ! At the beginning of the year, I was relying on winning SBI's and was falling badly behind my goal. So I set up a couple of ways to buy SBI's to reward people - for Author of the Week 2nd place in #SaturdaySavers, two a week for redfish who grew the most in the BusyBees group run by @zakludick, and up to two a week for responses to writing prompts I create weekly in the Worldbuilding Community.
Although the shared rewards I get back from SBI's will take years to repay the cost of the SBI's I've bought, I'm not too worried about it. I look at it as a great way to give something back to the Hive community and to help and encourage other Hivers.
Posts Per Month
This is a goal I've really struggled with. There was only one month where I actually missed it, mainly because I was on holiday for 10 days with very limited internet access. I've realised that I'm actually a bit of a shy lurker type. The combination of being incredibly busy with work and my natural instinct to not treat life as a photo-journal has sometimes left me with a bad case of writers' block.
But just having a target has helped push me to post on days where it would have been easy not to. I'm hoping next year to do better....
VESTS
It's useful tracking this metric, as it is what underlies everything else. At this rate of growth, I should just about manage to get to Orca by my 150th birthday 😁
So overall although I missed a couple of targets the two I missed were ones I'd upgraded significantly during the year, and I am pleased with the way the year has gone. Despite all the "real world" surprises and distractions, I managed to pretty much double the value of my Hive account, which is good going.
The plan is to finalise my goals for 2024 and then post those within the next few days. Having a complete year of data for 2023 is very helpful, although it's impossible to account for the unexpected in this crazy topsy-turvy Matrix world we're now living in !
For those of you going out celebrating the New Year tonight (or staying in to celebrate it), have a really great one, and see you all on the other side 😁
If you're not familiar with SaturdaySavers, it's a fabulous initiative run by @shanibeer writing as @sally-saver on the @eddie-earner account, where we all support each other in getting to our savings goals.
If you are one of my friends reading this (or just someone who tripped over one of my posts), I really recommend this as a great community that's well worth joining.
I'm normally very disorganised about saving, and the support of the wonderful people in #SaturdaySavers has been invaluable in keeping me focused. I can honestly say that without it, my HP would probably be half what it is now.
So join ! You don't have to wait until the start of the year. The best time to start saving is ten years ago. The second best time is right now !
Thank you so much for all the SBI's that you have given to the Busy Bees redfish over the last year!
Are you going to continue doing so in the new year? 52 weeks so 104 HSBI increase for you!
Thank you ! Yes - giving SBI's feels like a good way to give something back to the community, and is a nice way to reward people to recognise their work and commitment.
I'm certainly planning to continue it next year, the only thing that might stop me is if the price of HIVE suddenly jumps massively or I run out of fiat to invest !
Hopefully we can find ways to motivate some of the other redfish to do more. I've just persuaded my wife (who is notoriously social media averse) to come onboard, and seen how hard those first few steps are, which is something I'd forgotten. I wonder what else we can do within BusyBees to help the redfish to grow and stay involved ?
Yeah, you kicked ass! And I especially like the HPUD one. :D
!BEER
Thank you ! HPUD and LPUD are awesome ideas, they give me a fixed point that's a kick up the behind to keep me working on my account value 😁
