Mr Temaki was cashing up for the night just as an agitated youth burst in waving a pistol.

“Gimme the money !”

Holding up a three-fingered hand, the old shopkeeper went behind the counter.

“Young man, you make a threat. I make a promise.”

Then he pulled the shotgun’s trigger.

For any of my friends (or anyone else, for that matter !) who reads this and fancies giving it a try, it's really fun and thought provoking. The rules are really simple;

  • The Freewriters Community has a Zapfic post with a writing prompt every Monday
  • Your response must be posted within 3 days in the Freewriters Community.
  • Please post a link to your entry in the comments section of the prompt post
  • Please use #freewritehouse and #zapfic tags.
  • The important one - YOU MUST use a word/character counter (if you search for word counter on the internet or in your phone's app store you will get a big choice!) wordcounter.net and include a screenshot. Entries without a screenshot will NOT be valid.
  • Please use the prompt provided as you see fit (use your imagination)
  • Try to tell a complete story if you can!
  • The story should be EXACTLY 50 words long.

Mr. Temaki's calm response was a sufficient answer to a threat. The old man surely had met with this type of situation in the past probably being threatened before in his business.

This scenario happens frequently in the U.S. Why not just work for your needs instead of attempting to steal others' hard earned money. The situation almost invariably ends in one of the two people being harmed.

Thanks for sharing this story. It rings true too often. Take care.

Yep, sadly it's starting to happen here in the UK as well, although usually with knives rather than guns.

But Mr Temaki did give a clue to why he should respond so thoroughly, and why he knew he'd get away with it ;)
