The beauty of "Clock" is its simplicity. A 50/50 combination of softness and gentleness creates the perfect song, in part because it draws the audience in. The album won the 2004 Grammy Award for Record of the Year and brought Chris Martin and Sons critical attention and recognition throughout the music world. The song was also picked up by many radio and television stations to promote their programs. A music video was filmed to support the single, directed by Dominic Leung. Coldplay also kept it simple, playing to a mostly student crowd at London's ExCeL exhibition centre.

Co-written by all members of Coldplay, "Hours" is based on repetitive piano arpeggios and cryptic lyrics with a tendency toward despair. Either way, the haunting, sarcastic, and devious tone brought back memories of the summer I came across The Hours. Perhaps because of the freshness of the hot summer atmosphere. Because this is a wonderful song that resonates today in our memories as the day we heard it for the first time. As Martin himself once explained, "Clocks" was inspired by the British band Muse. He arrived late to record the second LP "A Rush of Blood to the Head" and only demos were recorded, which it was decided to save for better conditions. However, the song happened to be heard by the group's manager, Phil Harvey, who convinced the group to give the song lyrics and include it on the album.
