WOO! The Hidden (is it?) Relationship between 3 of WOO's Partner Wrestlers!

A Big Hello to all WOO Fans! 🥳🥳🥳 WOO!

I always like to be clear with my intentions when I write a post out of nowhere uncharacteristically. So if one remembers my really long "historical WOO post" yesterday, it was to score a huge amount of points in the current WOO Land Crate Event Zealy Campaign! (what a long campaign name I've given to them 🤣) Similarly for today, in my attempt to challenge for the leaderboards in the current WOO Land Crate Event Zealy Campaign, I will undertake this task of writing an onerously long post yet again. 😱 The stakes are even higher this time with a 100k experience points bonus which will definitely go a very long way. Guys on the "jfuji-blitz-(and more!) content limited" team, if I manage to somehow clinch it all and manage an underdog victory, you all owe me a finger massage! 😁

The topic for today is decidedly different from yesterday's although there will most certainly be similarities and overlaps given how everything is connected in this ecosystem. That said, the main topic(s) today are about WOO's partner wrestlers. There have been 4 official partners so far whose cards have either been released or announced to be released soon. For the uninformed, they are, in order of their release, Perry Saturn, Raven, Sonny Onoo, and last but not least, Terri Runnels. I'll mainly be focusing on 3 of them today, and how these 3 individuals are intricately linked.

In case you're still guessing, they are Perry Saturn, Raven and Terri Runnels. I'd only known about the link between all 3 of them after doing some reading up on Terri Runnels after I read about her being announced as WOO's next partner wrestler. If you're surprised how such three diverse individuals can actually be "related" to each other, fret not because I was too when I first found out about it.

First off, lets briefly talk about each of them individually. I think it is only right that all 3 wrestlers get their own brief introduction.

• Perry Saturn

Perry Saturn, being WOO's very first "headliner" is also the best known face of WOO (at least in my opinion). He is currently retired from wrestling. Perry was born on October 25, 1966, in Cleveland. His wrestling career began in the 1980s until the 2000s.

My research tells me that he began his rise to prominence after he joined the ECW in the 1990s. It was there that he started being recognised for his wrestling style and aerial manoeuvres. He then joined the WCW in 1997 where his star rose even further. It was there that he won the WCW World Tag Team Championship twice with his tag team partner John Kronus in their team known as The Eliminators.

Following WCW's buy out by WWE in the 2000s, Perry became part of the WWE stable of wrestlers where he started off being a member of the group called The Radicalz. It was also during this time period where he won the WWF European Championship and WWF Hardcore Championship. For those who're jarred by the sudden acronym change, the WWE was once known as the WWF before they lost that name to the World Wildlife Foundation! 🤣

• Raven

Raven, who's real name was Scott Levy, was born on September 8, 1964. Just like Perry Saturn before him, he is also currently retired. He too began his wrestling career in the 1980s on several independent wrestling circuits before making his name in the ECW. (See that pattern and similarity there with Perry?)

If you've seen images of Raven, you might have guessed that his character is rather on the gothic side. I mean, even his name Raven kinda says it all, doesn't it? 😉 The audience seemed to like it though. His dark and brooding persona endeared him with the fans and he became one of the ECW's top stars. In fact, he also won the ECW World Heavyweight Championship on multiple occasions.

Following his stint in the ECW, he too moved to the WCW (yes another similarity with Perry Saturn) where he remained equally as popular. However, it does seem that certain issues behind the scenes didn't allow him to grow as big as one might have expected, considering his success in the ECW.

Nevertheless, after the WCW was concluded, he too joined the WWE (yes, once again like Perry Saturn) where he ended up as part of the Hardcore Division. I would say this was possibly his most successful period as he held the record for the most number of reigns as the Hardcore Champion. It was a most impressive achievement indeed. He left the WWE in 2003, just one year after Perry Saturn.

• Terri Runnels

Terri Runnels, whose real name was Terri Lynne Boatright, was born on October 5, 1966, in Live Oak, Florida. She too was a person of the 80s as she began her wrestling career at that same time period. At the start, she was just a makeup artiste ad hair stylist in the WCW. She then made her wrestling debut when she took on the role of Miss Alexandra York, a manager for The York Foundation stable.

It was in 1996 that she rose to prominence alongside her real life husband, Goldust, in the WWE (or WWF as it was known back then). Her character Marlena played as Goldust's manager. It was clearly eye catching as her cigar smoking character made waves in the circuit. Unbeknownst to any, she was also the creative force behind Goldust's storylines where he had feuds with big names like The Undertaker. My research led me to find out that Vince Mcmahon, the owner of WWE literally stole all the credit for her creative work and pass it off as his own. Although, I'd say that anyone who has been following wrestling closely probably wouldn't be too surprised. He has been infamous for being pretty underhanded and ruthless while growing his company, the WWE, into the multi billion entertainment behemoth that it is today.

Let's talk about the connections between all 3 of these characters now.

First, the similarities. We can see from my brief introductions to all 3 wrestlers that they were all getting into wrestling during the 80s. All 3 of them also progressed through the ECW and then the WCW before making their way into the biggest stage with the WWE. Of course the same could be said for many wrestlers as that was the time period in which wrestling slowly gained widespread popularity and WWE increased it's dominance over the entire industry.

Now for the more obvious connections.

Do you know that Terri Runnels happened to manage BOTH of these personalities? Yup. I am referring to Perry Saturn and Raven. Whether it was by design or coincidence, I have no idea and my cursory research about them didn't show much indepth information. The 3 of them also formed a love triangle storyline in WWE. How much of that was reel life and how much of it was real life? To be honest, I don't quite know myself too. Some quick reading told me that Terri Runnels was romantically involved with Raven and that Perry Saturn was chasing after her too. Was it because of this situation that they opportunistically turned this into fodder for the WWE story machine? Your guess is as good as mine.

My research also tells me that Perry was friend zoned by Terri Runnels (ouch). In fact, he was rejected by her 3 times and that seemed to hurt his feelings or ego quite a bit. If you think this is too ridiculous to possibly be true, wait one moment and look here at actual interview transcript during which Terri Runnels was interviewed and here's what she said.

“So, Perry says to me, you know, ‘I like you and I wanna date you.’ And I’m like, ‘dude, I love you but like I don’t love you that way.’ And like, ‘you’re precious to me but I don’t wanna date you.’ And he for two weeks did not speak to me. For two weeks he like literally every match we had, I had to ask someone else what are we doing? What am I doing? And he gave me the greatest compliment though years ago. He said to me, ‘Terri, I never thought that I can actually have a female as a friend until you became that for me and you showed me that a male can actually have a female friend. That was the best compliment ever.”

I don't know whether to laugh at Perry throwing a temper tantrum by ignoring Terri for 2 weeks ad refusing to talk to her, or cry that he got rejected. Everyone knows it's heart shattering (and ego crushing) to be rejected right? Well, the good thing is that he got over it and actually became really good friends with Terri in the end. So all's well that ends well.

Well, but real life love triangles aside, all this culminated in Terri dumping Saturn in the WWE storyline also as she turned on him and went for Raven and also became his manager.

This entire scene sounds epic and full of truths or half truths or even hidden rumours and what not. To be honest, since Wrestling is basically entertainment, I can't tell for certain even which interviews are part of the story or whether they really have some truth in them. One thing for sure though. When WOO launches in Q3 and IF Bookerman ever manages to get all these 3 wrestlers LIVE together for an AMA, I must definitely make them answer these burning questions in my mind.
