Swans
I like to think of myself as bird-friendly. I don't know if the reciprocal is true but I would like to know that they are my friends too. Until I have some confirmation of this friendship I will try to write something in the Feathered Friends community as well, cared for by three ladies I don't know if they are my friends, but whom I have known for a very long time, from the other world I might say, a world that began with St and ended with mit!
I just found out that the Show Me A Photo Contest contest has reached Round 150, which is to be celebrated.
It's a photo contest. I have entered many such contests, as have all those who love photography. Only in this contest, I have not participated so far for a very simple reason. I don't know how to photograph birds and I don't have the necessary lenses to photograph from a distance.
The main purpose of entering a contest is to win something, a reward. It is a recognition of value. For me, the rewards are not important. The appreciation you receive from someone, a curator or a jury, proves that you have managed to do something good or at least that you have managed to fit the requirements of the contest theme.
The topic now is a very permissive one, because it is a free theme. I just have to pick the best bird photo I have. Seems like something simple and easy to do... but not for me.
I searched through my bird photos, starting with the most recent ones, but after a lot of work with sorting and editing (especially enlarging), I wasn't at all happy with the result. I wanted to give up but remembered that I had been to a great museum in the open air, an ethnographic museum, where I was able to get up close and personal with some swans. They approached me, probably used to getting food from visitors.
I'm not at all happy with the photos. The bright white of the feathers burns out the details. I should stop posting. I just remembered that I have many, much better photos of gulls. I think I'll use them another time...
Next, I'll put the photos from my first option, the most recent photos taken of a large group of waterfowl, swans, geese, and ducks, that I met by chance when I took a walk in a very beautiful place near Bucharest, Mogosoaia Palace.
The palace garden is located on the shore of a lake. It was a huge surprise to see so many birds on the lake!
The surprise of seeing these images I would say idyllic was caused by the moment I took the photos. At the end of December, when winter should have taken over and these birds should have gone far away to the warm countries.
You can see that part of the lake is covered with ice, I mean I hope you can see it because it was there...
I'm glad I was able to complete this attempt for myself. I did it out of respect for the ladies I mentioned earlier. Our colleagues who are in charge of this community and a few others, equally interesting.
I hope to see you all well again on the 200th anniversary of this contest!
You did a terrific job capturing and showcasing the beauty and elegance of swans as well as the other waterfowl floating on the lake in your entry post! @bluemoon

Thank you!
Your photos are great my friends. Swans make a lake more beautiful ;)
Thank you!
I really love swans, but you also took some beautiful shots where they can be seen in their splendour. The pictures where you see so many swans in the distance I really liked them, thank you!❤️
The swan is one of the most photogenic birds. Unfortunately, the bright white feathers make it difficult to take good-quality photos. I didn't succeed.
Yes, the sun's rays make them so white that close-up shots are very difficult. I have a park in the city where there are black and white swans and that's what happens with the white ones.
Thanks for confirming my opinion.
I know they talk a lot, these pure angels of grace. And they like to be fed seeds, bred and so on, but it's not recommended to feed them processed food such as diary. Thanks for this nice post with different aspects of their lives.
With pleasure! That's right, you're right.
Hello @bluemoon ! How are you doing ? Nice to see you participating to the community and to Neli's contest 😊
...do you know why this swan has a number around its neck..? the others don't have any, but this one we can see on many photos is MK49...🙄
Have a wonderful day my friend
Thank you. Nice to talk to you. I hope you are well and wish you a happy new year!
I don't know what that number represents but those swans are being monitored. I don't know why one has a number and the others don't. I didn't think to ask.
for your wishes @bluemoon
With the greatest pleasure!
The relationship of friendship is very special in this world, whether it is human friendship, animal friendship or bird friendship, every human being has friendship and the one who does not leave a person in difficult times is called a true friend.
Yes, friendship is the most valuable feeling.
Yes
It is not easy to photograph birds but you did it very nicely! I noticed the number around the neck, probably as they are marked and followed in this way?
I remember a flock of swans in the Danube one winter, it was cold but they approached the shore and people were bringing them food, I think corn and dry bread.
Thank you!
Swans often don't migrate to warmer countries, fooled by the seemingly mild winter and then cold spells when the lakes freeze over and they run out of food. Unfortunately, some of them die and others are fed by humans.
Swans make no friends. We blink, and bang... they kill us all.
Haha... what a catastrophic image! I never thought of such an enemy.
I cannot see the ice, but I trust you haha, either way this post gave me chill and tranquil vibes, it reminds me of my days of living in Stockholm and going to one of those huge parks with its own lake with local fauna.

It is so delightful to see your post in our community of Feathered Friend, my friend. 🙂
Birds aren't easy to photograph, but you have captured them nicely and the swans are so elegant.
Interesting to find out about the marking of the neck of one of them.
Thank you, Neli. I'm sorry I don't post as much as I'd like, but when I see the photos you birdwatchers take, I'm intimidated. The warm welcome forces me to stop by again. I can see that many were interested in the purpose of that marker. I'll try to find out the cause.
Your photos and stories are always welcome and our community. 🙂
Thank you!
