1883 O Morgan from The Great Southern Treasury Hoard
I'm a sucker for Morgan dollars. I'm especially a sucker for Morgan dollars that have been hiding out in random stashes in government and bank warehouses, waiting to be discovered.
Back in 2020, NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) graded 13,000 Morgan dollars that had been found at the New Orleans Mint. Thirteen sealed bags were discovered, which is quite the find, considering many Morgan dollars were melted down. (Source)
Obverse This Morgan was graded MS63. This means it is in "Mint State," and with a maximum possible score of 70, this one graded at a 63. The label is signed by Edmund Moy, the 38th Director of the US Mint.
Reverse On the back, we have the holographic NGC label. Here's what the reverse looks like right side up.
This eagle design is one of my favorite. It's nothing super fancy, but it has a lot of great detail in it.

I paid $98 for this coin, which seems to be about the going rate. These are a great piece of history at an affordable price. By comparison, the GSA Morgan I bought cost $350, since it was specifically produced by the US government with a special box and certificate. These are a much more affordable alternative and very fun to collect!

That Morgan is a beauty. I have seven Morgans that were passed down from my Father, most being well circulated and I am glad to have them but I wish I could remember where and why he bought them.
It has this old distinguished aura around it.

Dear beloved Hive creator,
Coding poet Gudasol here to support you sharing your art + life on Hive.

Bad news: Saying see you later to Hive! 👋
We didn't get the needed support to continue cXc.world on Hive, as our DHF proposal lacked votes, but [Good News Everyone] cXc.world will add a Markdown copy button, allowing you to easily share your music + music you find on Hive.
For now, we're on WAX, with tools you can use to mint your own Music/Media NFT collection.
