I Finally Got In-N-Out!
I've had In-N-Out many times over the years, but it's been a while. My last time visiting California was over five years ago. So, it's been a while.
I'm in Idaho, so it wasn't until eight months ago that our first In-N-Out location opened. Sure, there are locations in Nevada and Utah. I've tried them and they're not the same.
I'll admit In-N-Out is not the best burger out there. They are, however, the best fast food burger I've found for the price. You still can't beat a quality burger from a mom and pop store, but those are far and few between these days.
For the longest time, the closest thing we had to In-N-Out was Freddy's and Five Guys. Both are good burgers. My wife managed to grab us some food before the lunch rush overwhelmed the drive thru.
When they first opened up, people were waiting HOURS for the food. That's insane. In my opinion, no fast food is worth waiting more than 15-20 minutes for in the drive thru. If I'm going to wait any longer, I may as well go to a nice restaurant and wait an extra 10 minutes for better food and someone who will wait on me while I'm there.
We finished eating our meal and looked at each other. I admitted that as much as I like Five Guys, I still liked In-N-Out about 10-15% more. If wait time were roughly equal and so was travel distance, then In-N-Out would be my first choice. She agreed. We were both surprised that it tasted just how we remembered it from California, instead of the failed attempt at a facsimile that we had eaten in Nevada.
The best part is there are three more locations that should be opening up in the next year or two. The location that first opened is only about 7-10 minutes away, so the traffic there should lessen once others have locations closer to them. I never thought I'd actually see In-N-Out come to Idaho. It's nice to have a small "slice" of California here without the baggage that comes with it. I'm sure I'll be enjoying a few more In-N-Out burgers now, and I'm looking forward to it. 😁

I just had it for the first time in Colorado and I have to admit it didn't live up to the hype for me. We ate inside and we had to wait a good hour for our food. It was lunchtime on a weekday near a shopping center, so that was probably our fault. It's been forever since I have had Five Guys, so I can't really compare. The toppings at In and Out were definitely fresh, so I appreciated that. I still think Wendy's makes a dang good burger as well was Sonic and I am a sucker for a QPC. You are right though, nothing beats a mom and pop burger cooked on a flattop. Just delicous.
Yeah, it's hit or miss on the non-California chains. I'm sorry you had to wait that long and it wasn't that good.
Yeah, I miss the one I used to live near. They had great burgers and massive hand-battered onion rings!

The shake I got was still good and the burger wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I had been expecting given the hype. It was a good looking burger, that's for sure and the ingredients were nice and fresh. We have a three location chain in the northern part of Michigan that makes some of the best burgers out there in my opinion. It's called Clyde's. Here was my In and Out burger:
Yeah, I think a lot of people overhype it. It's not the be-all-end-all burger. It's better than most chain burger places, but it's not going to beat small places, chains, sit-down restaurants, etc.
I've been to whalburgers a couple times and I actually think they make a quite decent burger.

Hmmmm... a few of those popped up in Australia. I couldn't be bothered waiting in the huge lines either. Perhaps when all the fuss dies down, I'll give it a go...
Yeah, I've found it's usually best to wait 8-12 months for the hype to die down.

This burger and fries combo is a godsend and the one in the picture looks mega juicy! I tend to eat more at the burger king here in my city, I think it's the only sandwich that's worth the price for its size, the Whopper is really big compared to the others.

Thanks! I hear you on the size. It's hard to justify a small burger that tastes great when you can get a bigger one that's more filling for cheaper.

You know it's odd, I have noticed that stores in California do taste better than ones in Arizona and Utah. I'm not sure why... I still like them better than most of the other choices out there and their prices are still somewhat reasonable!

Never heard about it, but then again, I don't know many of these brands from the US lol. You are right when you say no fast food is worth waiting more than 15 mins or so. We finally managed to convince our daughter that MCDonalds is bad some months ago by showing her the documentary about how their food is made, lol. Now every time (we test it) we say, let's eat Mac, she's like NOOOOOO haha. Very funny, never thought we'd end up there.
I personally regret it every time I ate it (not often thankfully) and noticed some sort of allergic response wanting to clear the throat constantly. When that happened a few times, I decided it was time to never order that ever again.
Here you can get mini hamburgers as tapas with your drinks, or if they don't include it, it's 2 euros more or less but then you have a decent bun (often homemade bread) with good burger meat (homemade) on it. My daughter is a fan of these now. Sitting at a tapas place is much more fun than fast food chains anyway.
