When The Pizza Isn't Worth It

You'd probably think it's odd that a post with a picture of a delicious-looking slice of pizza has a title bashing it, right? I love pizza. I could live on pizza for a week straight. I'm not a pizza snob, but even I have standards when it comes to pizza.

I'm not into naming and shaming, so the restaurant I visited will simply be called "Pizza Place" for the purposes of my semi-rant.

I knew about Pizza Place, since I've passed it a few times. I had just finished up a meeting and decided to grab pizza for lunch. I normally grab a slice from the Costco down the road, but I'm not really a fan of crowds.

I went in and ordered a single slice of Pepperoni and a can of soda. The whole order came to $6.35 with tax. That's pretty steep considering slice of Costco pizza only costs $1.99. I wasn't thrilled with the cost, but at this point I didn't want to waste more time driving to Costco.

The pizza slice was massive. They sell a 28" New York-style pizza and it looks like they sliced one up and reheat the slices in the pizza oven when you order them.

And the verdict is...

(Source)

The crust was good. The Pepperoni was decent. The cheese was fine. The sauce, however, had very little flavor to it, and very little of it. All I could really taste was cheese and Pepperoni.

It certainly wasn't the worst pizza I've had, but it was far from the best. I certainly won't be going back to Pizza Place. Even pizza from places like Pizza Hut and Little Caesar's has more flavor. Oh well. Lesson learned.

Yeah, not all pizzas are created equally. I’m kinda of a pizza snob, while I try just about any pizza. I will not eat pizza from a chain pizza place. I’ve had Pizza Hut as a kid and don’t card for it. I’ve never had Dominos, Little Caesars, Papa John’s or any other chain and it will stay that way. I want handmade pizza with flavor. No conveyor belt ovens, a true pizza oven gas, wood, coal don’t care.

I hear you.

My favorite is a non-chain Italian place near me.

They offer spicy chicken sausage as a topping, and it is absolutely delicious. It's not cheap, but then good pizza never is. 😁

I live in New Jersey, I’m very lucky to have plenty of outstanding pizza places near by.

To me the sauce is the make or break ingredient. If the sauce sucks or is way too little of it I'm usually disappointed!

Right? I'm just surprised that a pizza place would overlook that. Oh, well.

Food chian pizza is also kind of delicious, but I would prefer to eat the home made pizza made by my sister, after all you could also put any toppings that you want in it.

Homemade pizza is certainly delicious. It's also a lot cheaper and you can make more than one. 🙂

I have had pizzas that I though I wouldn't like, that I ended up loving, and vis versa. Every pizza is a coin toss, I guess.

Oh, I never waste food. Harsh lesson from growing up poor. But I hope I don't have to eat food I don't like.

Oh, I don't either, but I see it as a waste spending money on food that doesn't taste good.

Fortunately, I didn’t have the luxury of having a “bad” pizza yet. Because I avoid the ones that my friends have tasted before.

The piece of pizza looks appetizing, it's too bad that it didn't meet the standards of being good, we learn from experiences and we don't go back hahahaha. Let's go get a piece of pizza
