A walk in Bolivar Park in Caracas

avatar
(Edited)

Hello, Hivers and Wednesday walkers!

This walk I did last Saturday. I went with my son, who wanted to go for a jog in the Parque del Este. And once we had walked the entire circuit of the park, we wanted to take a more relaxed stroll through the adjoining Parque Bolívar. And this is the walk I'll share with you today.

This park has not been in operation for long. It was inaugurated in 2018 and built on part of the grounds of a military base that is in the middle of the city, La Carlota Air Base. The only access to the park for the public is through Parque del Este. Otherwise, you would have to enter through the air base, which is not allowed.

ParqueDelEste.jpg

From this point of Parque del Este, we could already see the access to Bolivar Park. It is where you can see the Venezuelan flag.

ParqueBolivar_Entrance.jpg

Highway_BolivarParkEntrance.jpg

To communicate both parks, which are near but separated by the main highway of the city, the Francisco Fajardo Highway, a pedestrian bridge was built across it. The bridge is called Puente Independencia.

And here you can see the view from the bridge towards the highway.

BolivarPark1.jpg

This is another view from the bridge, but this time towards the park. The small plane you can see in the foreground is a small cafe.

ViewFromBolivarPark.jpg

On the other side of the bridge facing the highway, you can see the Soto Sphere, an immense piece of kinetic art by Venezuelan artist Jesus Soto, who was one of the great exponents of kinetic art.

BolivarPark2.jpg

BolivarPark3.jpg

The park has many green areas. And that air traffic control tower you can see there is actually a restaurant, but it was not open when we walked through the park.

BolivarPark4.jpg

Nowadays the park spaces are often used for events and this time, they were holding a fair about study opportunities for recent high school graduates, so there were a lot of young people in the park.

BolivarPark5.jpg

In the park, there is also a small artificial lake.

BolivarPark6.jpg

And at the bottom of the lake, they had put up some food trucks and a small stage. I guess as part of the attractions of the fair they were doing.

BolivarPark7.jpg

And we couldn't help but notice the solitary heron at the edge of the lake.

Garza1.jpg

Garza2.jpg

We saw it fishing but couldn't catch the moment when it devoured a poor fish in one bite, hehe.

BolivarPark8.jpg

Here is the view of the lake from the point where the food trucks were. Much more impressive because it has the majestic frame of the mountains, El Avila.

BolivarPark_RoyYo.jpg

I couldn't miss a picture with my favorite guy with whom I'm spending every second I can these days.

BolivarPark9.jpg

And another view of the lake with the mountains.

BolivarPark10.jpg

BolivarPark11.jpg

Construction continues on the park's land. The biggest one we saw is on one of the edges of the lake, a space where they are building an acoustic shell for shows.

And by the way, in the first picture, if you look closely, you can see that our friend, the solitary heron, decided to take flight. Do you see it?

BolivarPark12.jpg

So after a walk around the lake, and enjoying a little more of the impressive view of the mountains, we crossed back the pedestrian bridge and went back to the Parque del Este where we parked the car. And so ended our walk.

This is my post for this week's #wednesdaywalk challenge hosted by @tattoodjay in collaboration with #makemesmile hosted by @elizacheng.

That small plane cafe is unique . Have you tried dining in there?

I've never dined there, but I think it's more of a place to have a coffee and a snack. :)

Many interesting things about this park even though they haven't operating for too long. Yess I like with the food truck like this which is will offer a great atmosphere and the option for the visitors who are hungry as well.

I also liked that there were some food trucks to give more options for visitors to eat. Thanks for stopping by :)

Rorro really has got your curls Super Eli 🔵💙🔵

Now I snapped a heron at Raith Lake but it was at the far end and zoom mode so nothing as clear as yours.
Look at you now, with all the birds in your posts I love it:)

Happy Wednesday and I hope you enjoy it.

Yes, Rorro has my curls or at least that's what he likes to think, and not that they are like the ones his dad had when he was a teenager, and of which there is no trace anymore, 😂.

Lately, it seems I'm being chased by birds, lol.

Happy Wednesday, Super Ed! You're already counting down to the vacations, woohoo!!

That looks like a great place for a walk! Like that "airplane-bar", it's a pity that you didn't do some photos of the inside... I bet it looks amazing... For me, give me a bit of water, river, lake, or sea, and I'm good... 😂
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks to you for stopping by. The park is great for a walk and for outdoor events. The airplane cafe is simple, just a place for a snack and coffee, and the tables are outside on a small patio. I couldn't photograph them because there was a fair activity going on across it and there were a lot of people. But the place would be great for a small bar ;)

Thank you for this charming look at this corner of Caracas @coquicoin friend, this looks well-cared for and suitable for recreation... I loved seeing that beautiful specimen of great egret there!... They are very adaptable birds to the urban environment and do not worry about the presence of humans... And they are also beautiful! :)... Nice photos!... Greetings and hugs!

Muchas gracias, Jesus!!
The place is well-kept and is a good space for outdoor events. What I don't like is that there is a lot of construction going on, and that will make it lose a bit of natural beauty in the long run. Instead of building so much, I would put more green areas ;)
Thanks for your support always, my friend 😊

Beautiful photographs. I went to Parque del Este once, but did not tour it as I would have liked to. Now I know that when I travel to Caracas, I must also visit Bolivar Park, it looks beautiful.

Parque del Este is not what it used to be many years ago but it is still a good place for recreation in the city, and Bolivar Park is a nice place to spend some time. Hopefully, you can visit them the next time you come to Caracas :)

Nice park (much better than a military base 😀)... And cool to see a work by Soto, always nice effect in his works.
Have a lovely day.

I agree, the park is much nicer, hehe. The air base is still there. And there is a small airstrip and from time to time you can see small airplanes taking off or landing.
The Soto Sphere has become one of the landmarks of Caracas. It is now very well maintained, and it is nice to see it when you pass by on the highway.
Have a great day! :)

Looks like a lovely park. I love the pics of the heron. We have herons here. They look the same in shape/size/stature, but are different in colour on their backs and wings, with a white neck and black stripes on their head - so look quite different from that perspective !
