Discovering new trails at La Fila Park
― Albert Einstein
Hello, Hivers and Wednesday walkers!
Today I will tell you a little more about the hike I did with my husband last Sunday. I already mentioned it a few days ago.
Even though we often go to this natural reserve, on Sunday, we had an adventurous spirit and wanted to explore a part of the trail that we had never done before. We had looked at it on the map a few weeks ago but hadn't had the time to do it because we didn't know how long it would take. But on Sunday we went out in the middle of the morning to walk in the mountains without hurries.
This trail is also part of La Fila Park, a nature reserve in the middle of the San Luis neighborhood in Caracas.
This is the map of our tour. We got it from an app that the husband has on his phone.
Our usual route is the part that you can see on the left side of the map which has an entrance and exit by the main avenue of the neighborhood. On that route, there are a couple of viewpoints from which you get amazing views of the city and El Avila. And more than one you may have seen that I have shared here on Hive. But our route on Sunday took us on the winding trail that you see on the right. It was a little more than 2 km according to the app.
This trail is much more wooded. And thanks to the vegetation the trail is pleasant to walk even in a hot morning.
The first part of the route has some steep climbs, but at some point, the trail starts to descend. And in some sections, it was quite slippery because of all the rain in the last few days.
Here we didn't find viewpoints as on the route we normally do, but from time to time, we had some views to the east of the city and the nearby neighborhoods.
The trail is not very busy, at least that day, we only met a couple of hikers on the whole route.
At some point, we saw this kind of ramp, I guess for those who do mountain biking on this part of the trail. However on Sunday in this part of the trail, we did not cross any bikes. I guess because of the slippery terrain.
The trail down the mountain almost descends until it reaches a built-up area which you can almost see through the small forest and hear the traffic noise. But there is no trail down the mountain to it. There is a fence somewhere along the route that prevents you from continuing and the path continues in a loop up the mountain.
The vegetation at this point was tall and wooded and there were a few trees with what looked like a big wasp hive as the one in the photo.
And everything we went down, we had to climb back up. I assure you it was a very good exercise, hehe.
And despite we were exhausted, there was never a lack of mood to appreciate the beautiful little details of nature like this fungi.
And more fungus.
Or these small wildflowers.
We also had a small encounter with this elusive lizard that almost didn't allow us to photograph it.
After finishing the trail and returning to the point where we had taken it, we continued with our usual route.
With the idea of reaching the viewpoint and filling us with good vibes contemplating the magnificent view.
It was a great Sunday morning hike that we will surely try to repeat often.

Wow! I am glad to know about the nature reserve area in your amazing place dear super Eli. I see you having a great time. How I love to see the rare species there and I found it amazing how some organisms tried to camouflage on the surrounding place. Happy Wednesday walk and beat regards!

How great that they have discovered new walking trails, and that the vegetation helps keep the natural corridors cooler, I'm just sorry that the ground has been slippery

What a nice walk you had! The forest reminds me of the one that we have here near our place... I like when you climb to a big higher place and suddenly, you get a free gift in the form of magnificent landscape views through trees!

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project which will be highlighted in the next post!
You are right! Those views among trees are like little gifts. :)
Thank you very much for the support and for picking my blog for Liotes OurPick of the day.
Have a great day!
What a great hike. Such a nice addition to your normal route.
I can imagine the steep parts. Too bad it didn’t have more look out points.
Nice to see mushrooms and wildflowers. Even a lizard 🦎 popped up.
Good there was enough shade.
Thanks for sharing @coquicoin 👋🏻😊 have a wonderful Thursday 🌺☀️

It's great that we have discovered that new trail because now the route has turned into a good place to train for longer hikes on the main mountain in the city.
Have a great day, Jackie! 🤗🌱
Yes, it does help with training.
Thanks a lot, enjoy your day too 🌺🤗
what an awesome reserve and hike, such wonderful views and surrounded by the beauty of nature
Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk :)
A beautiful walk with excellent photos and interesting finds... That huge thing in the tree may not be a wasp nest friend @coquicoin, I think it is a termint nest and perhaps, when they move to another one, a pair of parakeets use to nest and have their chicks, I have seen them do that... :)
And you have a kind of "super-power" to photograph lizards, wow!... That is a "Green Spanish Lizard" (I think) and I have never been able to photograph a specimen in our low mountain forests because they are very nervous!... :))
Sending hugs and thanks for sharing!... Blessings for you and your family!

That makes a lot more sense. I thought it was too big for wasps, but I couldn't think of what else it could be.
The lizard was a matter of luck because whenever I go there I see a lot of them but they are too fast.
Have a good and blessed weekend, my friend!

I used to honestly think those things were underdeveloped mushrooms. The fungi …
Definitely a more winding route. Do the colors on the map indicate steepness? Looks like some switchbacks happening on that hike. 🙂
Wonderful photos of the forest. Thanks for sharing.
Wow - if that was a wasp hive, then it was about the biggest one I've ever seen - ooft !
Looks like you had a nice walk though !
