Smash Mouth for ttt
Hello, Hivers and music lovers!
Happy Tuesday! The day for music lovers on Hive to share some tunes thanks to @ablaze's #threetunetuesday initiative.
Yesterday, the former lead singer of the band Smash Mouth passed away. Steve Harwell had been for some time struggling with his health. The singer had retired from the band for that reason in 2021. - R.I.P.
So I thought that today's tunes could be a little tribute by bringing to #ttt those Smash Mouth songs that brought them to fame.
This American band was formed in the late 90's and had success in the alternative music scene. Their music is a mix of pop, rock, ska, and punk. But their real worldwide fame came with their participation in the soundtrack of the cartoon movie Shrek, which needs no introduction, right?
But before I get into the tunes, let me give you a little background for those of you who aren't familiar with #threetunetuesday. In the words of @ablaze, who started the initiative.
The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #ttt or #threetunetuesday tags that would be great. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize - more on that later.
You can find out more at ablaze's post with his recommendations for this last week the #119 118.
And without further ado, let's go with the tunes.
Tune 1 - Smash Mouth - Walkin' On The Sun
The biggest hit of their first album was the song Walkin' on the Sun.
Tune 2 - Smash Mouth - All Star
But the song that launched them to fame was undoubtedly All Star, from their second album. This song later was included in the soundtrack of Shrek. And if you didn't know who they were, surely you have heard this song.
Yesterday, I came across a very interesting video from a Spanish YouTuber, where he tells why the song All Star by Samsh Mouth is one of the most used in memes and a little bit of the history behind the movie Shrek. You can see the video here, it's in Spanish;)
Tune 3 - Smash Mouth - Why Can't We Be Friends
In the late '90s, on their first album, Smash Mouth covered the 70's song Why Can't We Be Friends originally by the band War. Do you remember it?
Bonus Tune - Smash Mouth - I'm a Believer
And to close with a bonus tune, I can't forget to include the version they did of The Monkees' hit, I'm a Believer for the movie Shrek.
Thank you very much for reading!
Enjoy the music, and enjoy life!

A great choice for #ttt. I havent heard them in a while and it is a nice refresher.
I hadn't listened to them for a while, too. And I had forgotten the feel-good some of their songs were.
I never listened to him, it's sad that the man died.

Smash Mouth were awesome, and I keep forgetting about Shrek hehe.
Glad you picked Smash Mouth today Super Eli, I did read yesterday he passed away.
I also saw the news of their former vocalist passing and it was quite a shock since he's not that old. He got some issues and even though I think the new vocalist fits well, it just isn't the same without Steve.
This is a really nice tribute. Four of their really great songs. Very nice.
