Smoky days in Bogotá [Eng - Sp]

I am still in Bogotá for a few more days and although the weather has been perfect, in the last few days the city has suffered a series of forest fires in the eastern hills that have affected the quality of the air, which is already quite polluted due to the congestion of the city.

Last Tuesday, I thought I was going to get the flu because I had a sudden attack of sneezing and that night I went to bed a little worried. However, I had already noticed that day when I went for a walk that there was a forest fire that could be seen in the mountainous area to the west of the city.

Wednesday, January 24th

The next day I woke up fine. But I noticed already from the terrace of the building where I was staying that another fire could be seen from there.

That afternoon I took these photos. You could see the smoke coming from the fire in what they call the Cerro El Cable.

What look like small flies in the photo are helicopters working to try to smother the flames.

On Thursday, the situation was not much different. I went for a walk to the north of the city. That day I walked a little more than 12 km and came back exhausted so I forgot to take pictures. But it smelled like burnt forest and that night, I, who am not allergic, had a sneezing attack and my eyes were watering.

Friday, January 26th

So on Friday, I took the day more slowly. I walked, yes, but to closer places. And in the afternoon, on my way back, I took these pictures. You could still see the smoke coming out of the hill.

The wind was blowing the smoke toward the area where I'm staying in Chapinero Alto.

Nevertheless, the afternoon was beautiful.

So I enjoyed some time on the terrace while the evening was falling.

Now and then a helicopter appeared, one of those that have been flying over Bogotá for days trying to extinguish the flames.

Saturday, January 27th

This morning has been another one of mostly clear skies, however since a couple of days ago you can see a smog haze over the city.

From the view on the terrace, it looks like they have managed to control the flames, or at least the wind is not sending smoke to this side of the city.

From the news, I know that some areas in the south of the city are still on alert. And you can still hear the helicopters flying overhead. Hopefully, they will be able to put out all the fires this weekend.

I for one am still walking around and exploring the city around these parts. So I will keep you posted.

Sigo en Bogotá por unos días más y aunque el clima ha estado perfecto, los últimos días la ciudad ha sufrido una serie de incendios forestales en los cerros orientales que han afectado la calidad del aire, que ya está bastante contaminado debido a la congestión de la ciudad.

El martes pasado pensé que me iba a enfermar de gripe, porque tuve un ataque repentino de estornudos y esa noche me acosté un poco preocupada. Aunque ya me había dado cuenta ese día, cuando salí a pasear, de que había un incendio forestal que se veía en la zona montañosa al oeste de la ciudad.

Miércoles, 24 de enero

Al día siguiente me desperté bien. Pero ya desde la terraza del edificio donde me alojaba me di cuenta de que había otro incendio que se veía desde allí.

Esa tarde hice estas fotos. Se veía claramente el humo que salía del incendio en lo que llaman el Cerro El Cable.

Lo que parecen pequeñas moscas en la foto son helicópteros trabajando para intentar sofocar las llamas.

El jueves la situación no era muy diferente. Salí a dar un paseo por el norte de la ciudad. Ese día caminé algo más de 12 kms y volví agotada, así que me olvidé de hacer fotos. Pero olía a bosque quemado y esa noche, yo, que no soy alérgica, tuve un ataque de estornudos y me lloraban los ojos.

Viernes, 26 de enero

Así que el viernes me tomé el día con más calma. Caminé, sí, pero a lugares más cercanos. Y por la tarde, a la vuelta, hice estas fotos. Todavía se veía el humo que salía del cerro.

El viento soplaba el humo hacia la zona donde me encuentro en Chapinero Alto.

Sin embargo la tarde estaba hermosa.

Así que disfruté un rato en la terraza mientras caía la tarde.

De vez en cuando aparecía un helicóptero, de esos que llevan días sobrevolando Bogotá intentando apagar las llamas.

Sábado 27 de enero

Esta mañana ha sido otra de cielos mayormente despejados, sin embargo desde hace un par de días se puede ver una neblina de smog sobre la ciudad.

Desde la vista de la terraza, parece que han conseguido controlar las llamas, o al menos el viento no está enviando humo a este lado de la ciudad.

Por las noticias, sé que algunas zonas del sur de la ciudad siguen en alerta. Y todavía se oyen los helicópteros sobrevolando la ciudad. Esperemos que puedan apagar todos los incendios este fin de semana.

Yo, por mi parte, sigo paseando y explorando la ciudad por estos lares. Les mantendré informados.
