Returning erroneously sent NEOXAG

I was greeted with a piece of news today that informed me that I had been sent some NEOXAG erroneously. You can check it out here for context.

As the title of this post shows in the picture above, I have returned the erroneously sent NEOXAG, and this is a quick reflection of some of the things that went through my mind. It is rather unique to blockchain, or should I say, uniquely Hive blockchain, so it's worth documenting.

If you read the technical mishap through the original post, you would know that the project owner claims that extra NEOXAG tokens were sent out to selected accounts due to technical glitches of sorts.

I don't quite understand how a thing like this could happen, but I did verify from the block explorer today that there were some extra NEOXAG tokens sent some weeks ago. Incidentally, I did not pay attention to the numbers in these H-E tokens and had happily staked them!

After some clarifications, I gladly sent back the equivalent value in about 52 Hives. I understood that it will be used to buy NEOXAG and have them burnt.

In simpler terms, I paid for the extra NEOXAG, and they will burn the same amount of NEOXAG at the backend. This keeps things in balance in some ways, I reckon.

It is worth reading the rest of the comments on that original post. I am not the only one to return the tokens. There are others who had done so.

I think it is only for a blockchain transaction that is happening within a web3 social like Hive would we see such responsible behavior among its users.

True enough, the advent of blockchain technology, with its immutable and totally open transaction records, seems to be facilitating a new type of responsible and fair behavior, slowly but surely.
