RE: A Beautiful Silver Half Dime from 1853

Really, I'd favor still calling the 5 cent coin a half-dime. "half dime" linguistically and etymologically makes a lot of sense within the context of our money system. But "nickel"?? They just offhand named it after the metal when silver became too expensive during the civil war so they needed to change metals.
Anyway, beautiful coin! I wish using Liberty would come back into style and replace all these dead presidents currently making US money so ugly.

US money really is just plain ugly. Who really wants these guys on the money. The US put Liberty on the money because they wanted to move away from the king or queen on the money. Now see what we have, former presidents or historical figures, and Liberty has been thrown in the trash...
The term half dime makes a lot more sense than the nickel. It should have styed as a half dime in my opinion, but I find that my opinion doesn't matter a whole lot with those in power....
