A Fascination With the Unexplained and the Unexplainable!
When I was maybe 15 years old, I remember one evening standing out on our terrace in the south of Spain, looking up at the stars on a particularly clear day.
After a few minutes, I spotted a light moving steadily across the sky. It was not large or particularly impressive, but since it had no blinking anti-collision lights, I excitedly determined that I must have spotted a satellite... something I had long hoped would happen!
But here's the thing: I watched that light slowly traverse the sky for maybe 20 seconds... and then it suddenly turned a little more than 90 degrees and moved at least 3-4 times faster than it had been previously, before disappearing from view.
Of course a UFO - Unidentified Flying Object - is precisely that; something that flies and we're unable to identify. The whole "aliens" thing is a bit premature at this point. You simply saw lights in the sky that — perhaps — made no sense.
What made me recall this particular incident was watching a documentary about UFOs earlier this evening, and realizing just how fascinated many people are with the unknown... and often unknowable in our world.
I have seen a few things over the years that - for lack of a better term - remain in the realm of speculative rather than concrete and tangible.
At least I don't have good explanations.
Like the summer evening some 12 years back when a group of friends were sitting on the lawn by the fire pit enjoying a few beers when "something" (which we all saw) that looked a bit like an oversized orange Chinese lantern came soundlessly floating through the patchy clouds above against the wind and disappeared over the next hill.
Perhaps that was not as telling by iteself as was the fact that two black military helicopters came thundering along the same path, searchlights on, no more than a minute later. We just watched.
At the time, it made us realize that part of the reason there are so few viable photos/film of weird phenomena is that most of us are quite reluctant to take our eyes off what we're seeing to go look for the high quality film equipment! That, and most "sightings" are likely not nearly as weird and eye-catching as the movies make them out to be.
As time has passed, I have more or less made peace with the fact that there are some things I've seen that I don't have a good answer for. Whereas I am definitely curious I have not reached the point of needing to obsessively solve the problem, so to speak.
Of course, some people's lives are so indelibly influenced by these "encounters" that their lives are turned upside down.
A good friend of ours is the former director of MUFON, and another friend is the current State Director. In their own words, 99% of reports of "lights in the sky" are just that and end up being rationally explained away. It's the other one percent that makes things interesting.
Closer to home, my interest has typically been more in the realm of what we call "the supernatural." Again, I have had personal experiences are that are very difficult to account for... but I am willing to believe that sometimes we experience extreme coincidences that seem so unlikely that the come across as supernatural.
But then again, we still end up with that one percent that simply has no good explanation... even to scientific minds. Which leaves us with "That isn't POSSIBLE... but it still happened!"
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!

I am actually imagining the first part of this article in my head. I wish I could also see light in the sky moving. It will get me wondering that what am I seeing?
