"Convention Brain" and Other Fun Stuff!

I did actually get the T-shirt!

Home again, after a three day excursion out-of-town.

I definitely have a bad case of "Convention Brain," which is not that unusual when you have been operating long days in a completely different environment from the one you're used to.

Way back when, I used to call it "retreat brain" whenever I'd be away for week long spiritual and self-development retreats, and "re-integrating" with the normal world again felt like an almost surreal experience. We don't notice it so much on simple day trips, but when you do the "full immersion" experience for several days it almost feels like your brain and sense of self has been "re-set."

Afterwards, normal life feels strangely dichotomous, like it is both very important, as well as mundane, all at the same time.

It was definitely a smaller event than the last one we went to, back in 2019. Then, it was not unusual for 800-1000 people to be part of the weekend, and we'd go from Friday set at 2:00pm till lunchtime on Sunday.

This year — the first since pre-Covid — we went from 6:00pm on Friday till 7:00pm on Saturday, and Sunday with nothing organized and maybe 300-400 people in total.

I expect it will be a much bigger deal next year, once the word gets circulated that the conference is "on" again. Hopefully we will be invited back.

I'm tempted to just blow tomorrow off...

Unfortunately, I can't afford to do so... there are hundreds of emails to check, packages to ship and what have you, all clamoring for my attention.

It's funny how we make up our own ideas and rules about what we can and cannot "afford" to do with our lives. I suppose some of it relates to the kind of life we have chosen... self-employment often means that time off is not really a thing.

Still, I wouldn't want to trade it for the life I used to have...

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week ahead!

At the end of it all, we all get to choose the life we want to live and it is likely for us to know where it will result to…
