HiveBloPoMo Day 0: Goals and Getting ready — Doing Things "Properly," aka No Shitposting!
Happy Halloween, everyone!
Tomorrow, Hive Blog Posting Month (or "HiveBloPoMo") officially launches, with a challenge to writers and bloggers to create "a post a day" for the month of November.
There aren't any actual prizes for this challenge... the point is to challenge yourself to build a blogging routine that will hopefully help you as a writer, both here on Hive, and elsewhere.
As I type these words, the formal announcement from @traciyork has just been posted in the HiveBloPoMo Community itself!
A Few Thoughts From a Previous Participant
I'm not running this show, but I will share a few thoughts for those who might be considering it.
Do join the community — linked above.
Post in the community if you want to, or post to the communities you normally use... but DO use the #HiveBloPoMo tag in all your challenge posts!
Whereas you can "count your days" according to whatever clock you prefer, using UTC time makes the most sense. Even though I'm 8 hours off UTC, I use it for my challenge posts because in order to earn the badge (example below) from HiveBuzz your posts have to be 30 consecutive days, according to UTC time.

Take a Little Time to Engage!
Part of the reason using the #hiveblopomo tag is important is that I strongly encouraged you to visit it from time to time (just click on the tag, and then sort to "Recent first"), to engage with and encourage other participants. Engagement matters, and challenges like this are somewhat easier when you don't feel like you're alone in them!
Similarly, making "HiveBloPoMo Day __" part of your titles (like I did with this post) also helps others find your content.
Also, if you feel stuck you can always visit the announcement post which includes a nifty table/schedule with potential topics you could use, if you just can't get off the mark. I used it a few times during previous attempts!
Thoughts on Goals, and WHY Participate?
Personally, my reason for joining a challenge like this is that I am not a super disciplined writer... and knowing that "this is here" serves as motivation to sit down and write something every day.
"Getting in the habit" tends to help me throughout the year, too.
Participating also teaches me to be "more alert" to potential topics, as I walk through my days.
This challenge is about improving your writing, and your writing discipline!
My comment in the title about "doing it properly" and "no shitposting" refers to the fact that this challenge is not about just peppering meaningless content out across Hive! Sure, that would "technically speaking" complete the challenge, but to what end?
You certainly wouldn't impress anyone, and it wouldn't gain you any new followers! So... just don't.
Take the time and effort to do (your version!) of your best!
Well, that's my angle on this... time to get back to work!
Comments, feedback and other interaction is invited and welcomed! Because — after all — SOCIAL content is about interacting, right? Leave a comment — share your experiences — be part of the conversation! I do my best to answer comments, even if it sometimes takes a few days!
Greetings bloggers and social content creators! This article was created via PeakD, a blogging application that's part of the Hive Social Content Experience. If you're a blogger, writer, poet, artist, vlogger, musician or other creative content wizard, come join us! Hive is a little "different" because it's not run by a "company;" it operates via the consensus of its users and your content can't be banned, censored, taken down or demonetized. And that COUNTS for something, in these uncertain times! So if you're ready for the next generation of social content where YOU retain ownership and control, come by and learn about Hive and make an account!
(As usual, all text and images by the author, unless otherwise credited. This is original content, created expressly and uniquely for this platform — NOT posted anywhere else!)
