Right Now... Is One of my Favorite Times of the Year!
This strange little period between Christmas and January 2nd is one of my favorite times of the year... and has been, for a really long time.
Odd as it might sound, it is a time when I feel like I can breathe, for a few days.
That is, the busy-ness of getting everything ready for Christmas — including being pretty busy with both my businesses and my artwork, doing shows — has ended... and yet, "there's not enough time" for me to seriously start up on any new projects, or even resume my "old" projects for the new year.
So it feels a bit like being in a non-committal "holding pattern." Unlike many people who would feel antsy and restless, I really like this limbo state!
Back when I lived in Texas and had a retail store, it meant a time when we really were not that busy, and yet we often had some really good days when people who'd gotten cash and gift certificates for Christmas would come in and spend money. And those people were in a good mood, because they were not spending their own money!
I enjoyed sleeping more, because we were no longer keeping "extended store hours."
I would often just go for walks and not do anything in particular. Perhaps part of the reason I so like these few days is that I feel like it is a rare opportunity to not do anything in particular.
I have always been fond of "doing nothing!" I know it's not for everyone, but I like it!
These days, I still enjoy these few days of "relative emptiness" where I feel less compelled to keep my nose to the proverbial grindstone.
Which means things like writing in my (paper) journal, ordering art supplies, doing a bit of creative work, even watch mindless cat videos and podcasts. The latter not so much because I'm reminded of how little I like most video blogs. I come from an era where "speed reading" was a thing and a 5x faster way to consume content than listening to someone ponderously drone on.
Meanwhile, I am also enjoying lots of excellent Christmas leftovers... some of my favorite food that we generally only have this one time of the year.
Tomorrow I might even sit down and work on art for several (hopefully) uninterrupted hours! Such a luxury!
I am very appreciative of these few days... even if they are also a bit of a sad reminder of how little disposable free time I have, anymore.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week ahead!

Hmm I love the way you reasoned this. The only think you’d be thinking of is anticipating a new year and also thinking about your next year plans

I was just saying yesterday that I felt this period was a sort of null time, not much happening and a time to slow down.
