You're so Special!

Sometimes I find myself wondering about the subtle - and occasionally not so subtle - ways in which people go through life, seemingly in search of proof of their own specialness.

I say this as somebody who has never felt particularly special in any way, and I find myself wondering if the obsession with "being special" and different is a result of a certain generation's values, or something else.

I have no problem with people wanting to be special although growing up in Denmark I was somewhat influenced by the shadow of the Jante Law which somewhat dictates that we're all pretty much equal and if you think you're special you're actually bragging and kind of an unpleasant person to be around.

But that's besides the point.

Where it starts getting a little dodgy for me is when people's pursuit of specialness and their assertions that they are special somehow leads them to reaching in a point of feeling entitled to have some magical "get out of jail free card" that exempts them from any and all things ranging from engaging in decent behavior with others to being accountable for their lives in ordinary day-to-day 3D living.

I'm sorry, but you're not so special that you don't need to slow down in a school zone or you don't need to pay your taxes or medical bills!

There's a certain narcissism attached to this sense of specialness and where I really don't like it is when people start disagreeing with such folks and we end up with strange emotional witch hunts in which the subject person feels obligated to beat down anybody who disagrees with them.

I have, in fact, met people who will try to put you in some kind of psychological prison or emotional jail for "daring" to disagree with their perception!

To be honest, I never really saw the point of the whole need to be special obsession. Why? Why bother? How do you think it will make you feel any better?

Thanks for visiting, and have a great remainder of your week!

There are times when a few things happen to me and make some feel I have never been special in any way but I later realized I was wrong
Everyone is special in their own way and that’s why you have to move with the right people who makes you feel special and you return the energy too
