BATTLE MAGE SECRETS: STATUS AILMENT TO BREAK THE DIVINE SHIELD
Hello HIVERS, this is my weekly Splinterlands BATTLE MAGE SECRETS chalenge and today we have HOLY PROTECTION ruleset as our main theme.
HOLY PROTECTION rulest gives all units gain the Divine Shield ability which reduces the damage of the first attack received to 0. This is very troublesome for both party because the divine Shield will be reapplied when a unit is Resurrected. The most common approaches we see are:
- Using some resurrect ability users. The point is to multiple the existence of Divine Shield from the fallen units.
- Using blast ability users, because the blast damage can remove Divine Shield.
However today I want to take a different approach... I am going with the status ailment team, we will deliver poison and affliction to our enemy. Will this work? let see the battle
THE BATTLE
This was a Modern Gold league rank battle, and I was using blackrrsantan, a scholarship account from Juice Guild. Here were the ruleset we had here
These were the steps I did in setting up my team:
1. I should go with the Dragon for the safest
However I chose not to. Because all the monsters I needed were from death element. I think better I choose Thaddius Brood directly, it would not make any difference due to the Silenced Summoner ruleset.
2. 27 Mana Cap
This would be a battle of small monsters. I could only choose 1-2 decent sized monsters.
So here was my line up:
Position | Card | Ability | Plan and Strategy |
---|---|---|---|
Summoner | sillenced summoner | Like I have said before, I should go with Quix the Devious, but it would not make any difference... Let's go Thaddius!!! | |
Main Tank | Thorn, Heal | Ain't a death army if we got no windeku. The best tank from Chaos Legion Death Element, I need his thorn to damage my opponent too. | |
Second | Reach, Affliction | For a 4 mana card, shaddow snitch is a great choice. He has affliction that I really need it to stop any big tank keep getting healed and hard to be killed. Shadow Snitch has 3 Melee Damage with 4 Speed, he can keep up with Cursed Windeku in delivering damages | |
Third | Life Leech, Poison | Poison!!! yes this is my core status ailment for killing my opponent. Divine Shield won't be as effective as it should be, because the poison can injected from the first hit. | |
Fourth | Triage, Dispel, Blind | This is a complete support for this team. Triage will keep Venari Bonesmith alive from snipping attacks, as well as keeping backline wall lives longer from sneak attackers. Dispel is a good one, i do not wish to die from opponent buff, especially blood lust ability. My team will be fast, so blind ability is a good addition. | |
The Fifth | Life Leech | My backline wall, he will keep growing his Health by leeching opponent life. The only unit in my team that doesn't have specialty in disrupting opponent status | |
The last | Sneak, Poison | My second poison ability users, if Venari Bonesmith delivers poison to their frontline, Uraeus will inject poison from behind. I am quite uncertain whether to put Life Sapper on the last or this Uraues... |
Let see how this battle would go
ROUND 1
- The battle started with both of us Buffing up our team and debuffing our opponents.
- My opponent came with 16 Melee Damage and 2 Magic damage. It's a combined 18 damage per round, very high and they still had double strike from Dhampir Infiltrator...
- My team had 8 Melee damage and 5 Magic damage. Combined all it's 13 damage per round, definitely lower than my opponent fire power.
- This should be a one sided battle dominated by my opponent heavy sneak hitters... but let see how this woud go.
ROUND 2
- As expected, my opponent dominated first round and they managed to killed my Uraeus. It's 5 vs 6 now, my team got disadvantage here.
ROUND 3
- We were back at equal ground now, 4 vs 4. They killed my Life Sapper however I killed both their Cruel Sentropod and their Merdaali Guardian.
ROUND 4
- My opponent were good, they still fought back strongly... It backed to 4 vs 3 on their favor, however I had Cursed Windeku there, I had great believe in Windeku Prowess...
ROUND 5
- See what happened in single round... When you had only melee units, having a Cursed Windeku to fight against... its a bad odds on your side.
ROUND 6
- None died in fifth round, but by the look on the health point of the cards in the battlefield... it seemed I almost had secure the victory.
ROUND 7
- Well this was the last round. Quite close call, regarding their team looked very promising at the start and came up losing.
CLOSURE AND DISCUSSION
I won and this was not an easy battle. My opponent did come with a very text book approach....
- Cruel Sentropod with massive armor, a very annoying tank especially if you ressurect this schrimp and he rose up with massive armor.
- River Hellondale for the Resurrect ability
- Trio Sneak Attackers
A very good approach and I almost did the same with them... However this prove poison and affliction approaches worked well. There were 2 MVP in this battle
Venari Bonesmith kept my team in check, keeping the momentum by delivering poison who seemed not significant however actually making opponent died faster although Divine Shield protected them.
Thorn + Heal definitely made Cursed Windeku managed to wiped out all opponent sneak attackers in the few last turns. Definitely a great choice for this Holy Protection ruleset too. Thorn was taking the shield too, and this made him won his battles.
Ok that's all for today post. Have fun with your HOLY PROTECTION battles!!
