Different Region, Different Level or Value of Food

Hello There

Today I should have posted my Taco Tuesdays post.. Well it's not today, yesterday is what the exact date for the post. However due to some heavy workload, I have not been able to get some free time to finish my Taco Tuesdays.

And earlier I read @dbooster post about Comfort Food here : https://peakd.com/hive-120586/@dbooster/comfort-food . That post has picked my interest to make some sequel or follow up post on that. Due to that, I will postpone my Taco Tuesdays post to tomorrow, so it will be a Taco Thursdays edition LoL.

Most Asian favorite Comfort Food is definitely an Instant Noodle. I know each people have different preference and there are differences in each region, for example, there are parts in my country, Indonesia, that people do not like Noodles. But let's take this as a general, Asian loves Noodles or Ramen if you are in Japan.

I am an Asian too, so I have some instant noodles in my cabinet. I even have multiple type of instant noodles, from a quick ready to make cup noodles to regular instant noodles. From dry fried noodle to soup based and I even have that black cup noodles which is famous for ridiculously too spicy.

I have mentioned in that post post comment section that Sandwich is far from favorite here in Indonesia. I like Sandwich, my brother loves sandwich too even he buys sandwich and eats them almost everyday. However that is not something that common for an Indonesian, and yes I am not a pure 100% Indonesian by genetic. In the past I often got non-indigenous treatment due to multiracial or multi ethnicity background.

Some Indonesian even until today can not take Bread as a REAL FOOD. They can eat that but can't get full from it and some even feel unwell if eat too many bread. However the number people who are like that are decreasing nowadays. Most young people can take breads especially burgers and sandwich as a real food now.

However Still... Sandwich can not be popular in Indonesia. In some big cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya and Bandung, it has gained popularity as a comfort food, but still fall far below instant noodles. One of the biggest reason is PRICE.

Earlier after reading that post, I went to LAWSON and take the above shots. You can see those sandwich are sold at Rp 19.000, and the cheapest is Rp 16.000,-. Wonder how much is that? here I share you a screen shot

Well, that's a dollar sandwich... Is that cheap? For some people in big cities, it is cheap. But in general, It is not cheap. Not expensive but not cheap. Let's compare it to the lunch I had this noon.

I had this dish, We call this as Soto Lamongan and pretty popular here. Soto is a soup, and Lamongan is a region on Eastern Java Island. So it's actually a traditional Indonesian chicken soup with Lamongan style brooth. I won't talk about this soup today, because it will be one of my Taco Tuesdays post in future.

How much did it cost me? the same as the cheapest sandwich above, Rp 16.000 or a dollar. So with the same price tag, I got a rice mixed in a soup of chickens and boiled egg. If I bought sandwich, I would only got a small sandwich of egg mixed with canned tuna.

However that's not the cheapest Soto Lamongan I could get. There is another one which is a lot cheaper, only 0,7 USD but I prefer this one because I think they are generous in giving the amount of chicken and an egg. the cheap ones usually try to trick us by cutting a boiled egg into three part, not a half egg, but claim it as a half egg. and they won't give you chopped chicken, but they will shred the chicken into tiny fibrous like a noodle

Well that's a short story from me why a sandwich is not popular here, and maybe they won't be in future too... But still I love them, especially a club sandwich.

Thank you for visiting and see you next time

most times it's not even about how popular a meal is, price matters a lot. That is why in different places different foods are preferred to others. Local areas will go for what they can afford and the big places will also go for what they can afford.

I love noodles too, we have some down here in my place and they are really nice, LoL.

Your local dish looks nice, maybe someday I'll taste some. For me to buy sandwich, I'll rather get more plates of that dish. It is more nutritious and richer than the sandwich.

Hey there! Thanks for sharing such an interesting perspective on comfort foods in Indonesia. It's fascinating how regional preferences can shape our everyday meals. I totally get why sandwiches aren't as popular there, especially considering the price comparison you made with Soto Lamongan. Instant noodles really do seem to be a universal favorite across Asia. Looking forward to your Taco Thursdays post! Keep up the great content ❤️!

Hopefully, people will still be able to cook nice food (which, in most cases is cheaper than pre-made food)... all it needs is your brain to think. And it's healthier and tastier!

By the way, just realized... your main account 🤣

No pun intended... are you still going to keep playing Golem Overlord...?

I have been doing quite a flush in the guild, we are now 21 and pushing for active daily players... 1 daily claim is the best! No worries if you wanna drop =) But as hive allows this amazing communication, I can reach out to players :D
