Mother and the kids

This is kind of an unexpected finding in the garden of my boarding room. I have been observing the garden in my boarding room, but before this encounter, I always thought that the garden was empty from the insects of small animals. maybe I was not around when the garden was busy with insect activities, because I left the boarding room in the morning to work, and also came back early evening, so when I observed the place, I could not find any movement or indication that there is any insect around.

But that day, as soon as I parked my bike and took off my helmet, I saw the mother of this huge beetle resting in one of the mango tree leaves. I then proceeded to observe more to find out if there are other species any more of the same species that might also be visiting the mango tree.

And then I found some of her/his kids around. Here in the photo below, you can see the whole body of the mother using a lower magnification of my gear. You can see the color and the shape of this beetle with its long antennae.

And then here with bigger magnification, you can see a bunch of her kids hiding in the leaves. Look how the shape and the color of the kids and the adults are different. the kids have a black colored body, and has not developed the wings just yet.

And then here I have the mother, with bigger magnification. Look how small the heard is, compared to the thorax and the abdomen of this beetle.

It’s amazing how nature can surprise us when we least expect it. The differences between the beetle are fascinating. Thank you for sharing these detailed observations and photos

yes nature is always full of surprises, whenever and wherever She wanted to give us one.
their lifecycle bring a lot of different shape and color in the wildlife, which often time we think as if they are different species. so interesting isn't it?
