Oxyopes salticus : striped lynx spider

I wanted to re-pot the lemongrass plant that I planted on the side of the gate when I noticed this spider resting or waiting for the prey to come and ambush it as food.

This is the Oxyopes salticus is a species of lynx spider, commonly known as the striped lynx spider, first described by Hentz in 1845. and it is a kind of nonweb threading spider that rely on ambushing the prey than hunting or making th web to trap its prey.

It has a nice pattern on its body, with some brown stripes that can be seen along its body. And you can also see some hairs on its legs, it might be used to detect the movement of the prey that might come closer to its ambushing place.

And look at its eyes, the size of its eyes is a little bit not matching with the size of its body. Like most of the spiders, it has 8 eyes in total. so cool right?

In the garden of my house there are many of these small spiders living there, it is curious because until less than a year ago I did not know of their existence and now I see them everywhere. Amazing pictures!

That would be a nightmare. 😳

Thankfully, it's too cold where I live, so we don't have these kinds of spiders.

It seems to be taking its time moving around so you can take cool pictures of it from great angles :)

yes, this one is really tame, mostly will stay still and hardly moved when I photograph.

The photo is super! The spider is beautiful. It somehow resembles some kind of war machine from a science fiction movie.

Great shots! That's a funky spider, a hunter killer rather than a web sitter!
