Grateful for a Visit to the Scrap Yard

We had some metal parts from some shelves that we were not using, so rather than just putting it at the curb, we visited a local scrap yard to try to get some dollars for them..

I took my young boy with me because I knew he would really enjoy seeing the heavy equipment.

But what got him so excited was seeing the bright yellow machinery moving all the scrap around. He thought that was GREAT!

The scrap yard was actually well kept, I was expecting a bigger mess, but the scrap was well managed and the process of weighing, dumping, weighing and getting paid was really easy.

We threw away our shelves parts for $0.01 / lb. We left behind about 146lbs, they rounded up to $15.00. Being handed $15 cash and getting rid of something taking up room in the garage, was a win-win, in my book.

But spending precious time with my boy was the biggest win of the day!

Bless the Most High!

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.

Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.

I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

It was a great visit, discovered a new scrap yard close by and it couldn't be any easier to scrap. Now I understand better why so many scrappers patrol the neighborhood every "garbage day". It's amazing what people throw away for pennies! !BBH

That’s awesome that you got paid for 146 pounds of metal!👍😊
They’re a little bit less free with money up here Lol!😇
Our local scrap yard will take your scrap up to 250 pounds off your hands for free …🙄
Above 250 pounds they actually pay you a little bit but not much ….. life in the northwest Lol!😇🤣 ha ha ha ha

Glad I was able to pick up some dollars, there's a big "scrapping" industry around here, both people picking up and opportunities to trade it quickly and easily for cash.

No instant cash for copper or catalytic converters - both big theft items. They record thumbprints and ID for the trade and a three-day waiting period for these.

Wow…. sounds like a very large, thriving industry!👍😊
When we lived in Cincinnati, it was the same as your town money could be made with scrap. One of my friends owns a scrapyard back there.
Sad……..
The Pacific Northwest is a little bit different Lol!🙄🤔

Oh I can imagine that he did love it. I remember when we lived in Texas we went to a recycle center that had big machines like that for a tour and the kids loved it. Also the fire station. Those were some fun homeschool field trips!

Homeschool field trips are the best! When people execute their programmed "no school today?" question for my children, I honestly report: "homeschool field trip". And they usually look a little confused, like they didn't know that was an optional response. !BBH

Ha! Field trips really are the best...and anything counts when you're homeschooling! Everything is a learning opportunity!

I had a Tonka truck collection when I was a kid and I love those yellow trucks. I can imagine how your child felt.

That is a win-win ... and I'm sure the little one will never forget the experience!

I was so grateful today for the Lord showing me a little free library that needs a BUNCH of good books -- I will be rolling out next week to bless some people and lighten up my groaning shelves! There is a way even for us to release the things we no longer need in a way that gives God glory!

Yes, he'll likely remember this for the rest of his life! And what a blessing to be a critical part of this precious memory of his.

What a wonderful use of unused books, putting them in a place where others can enjoy them if they see the need! Our family really enjoys the little free libraries, we have to be careful to not weight our own shelves... but then that gives us the opportunity also to give someday!

Bless the Most High!!!

But spending precious time with my boy was the biggest win of the day!

Yes I totally agree with you. Spending quality time with your kids is a win-win situation, incomparable. I believe your son had sweet memories of that heavy yellow machine. You and your wife have always handled your family responsibilities very well. Best wishes.

Interesting experience on this day to collect some material at the scrapyard.
There are so many things to learn and transmit during our daily activities to the young one.
Cautious around sharp object for the little one
Thank you for sharing this moment with us
