5 new additions to our collection of UK 50p Coins

My daughter and I collect 50p UK coins. They are quite interesting due to the shape and also that the UK mint is actively issuing them with different designs and in different numbers.

We managed to pick up 5 new ones over the weekend (my brother knows we collect them, and he had picked up these ones and held onto them for us). There are only 3 different designs, with 3 being the same - but we normally try to collect 3 of each design, so thats great.

First up is the 2022 coin commemorating the 50th anniversary of Pride. There are 5,000,000 of these in circulation - so its not very rare, but I quite like the design and the cause. All 3 coins are used, but it pretty good condition.

Next up is a coin from 2020 with the design 'Diversity Built Britain'. This one is even more common with 10,300,000 issued. Again the coin we have is circulated, but in very good condition.

The last one is an oddity for us, because its not strictly a UK coin. Its a 50p coin issued by the Isle of Man. They do issue their own designs, and as far as I'm aware they are still legal tender in the UK, because we see them from time to time in our change. Its from 2020 and has a horned ram design which I understand is their standard 50p coin design of late. I could not find details of the number in circulation, but I assume it will be less than the other two (based on the size/population of the Isle of Man).

So it was nice to get a few new coins to add to the growing collection - its something nice that my daughter and I can do together.

Sorry for the poor pictures - I was really struggling to take decent pics due to the lighting and reflections.

Aye - there is an absolute ton of different designs. For example, when they held the Olympics in London, they brought out 29 different designs, each showing a different sport. Some of those are quire rare.

We have quite a few (hundreds - but many are doubles). We even have the coveted Kew Gardens (my mother in-law got it in her change !). We havent tried selling any, and just enjoy collecting them at this point. Although since covid, we are not using hard currency as much, preferring to use card transactions, and as such we are not getting as many as we used to.
