A lovely Autumn mornings walk with friends
It was an absolutely lovely autumn day here in Edinburgh. Lovely blue skies and quite warm for us considering its November.
Some of our friends from Aberdeen were in town this weekend and they came over this morning to go for a walk.
They had never been up Corstorphine Hill, which is near to where we live, so we took them up there.
The hill overlooks the rest of the city, and has a lovely view point called the rest and be thankful, which overlooks Murrayfield Golf Course and then onto the city itself in the background.
The weather really was lovely for this time of year, and the colour in the trees has really changed quite dramatically in the last week here. The blue skies were also quite unexpected (it can be really cloudy in Scotland at this time of year).
We took them all the way up to the top of the hill to see Corstorphine Tower. Its hidden in the woods at the top of the hill, and unless you knew it was there - you'd never know. I loved how the trees were casting shadows on it in the pic above.
The tower was built to commemorate Sir Walter Scott, one of Scotlands greatest writers. And the colours all around it were stunning - hence why I have photo blitzed it !
It was a fantastic start to our sunday morning. It was great to catch-up with our friends, and show them a part of the city they had never seen before. It was also nice to get some exercise early in the day.
The walk took us about an hour and 20mins in total, and had some good uphill sections, so I felt quite happy the exercise, and was quite hungry afterwards too !
And the colours were just fantastic. We really enjoyed it, a perfect sunday morning !
I hope you had a great weekend, wherever you are. All the best from Scotland !
I love Sir Walter Scott! I've only ever read Ivanhoe, but it was such a good book. This looks like a beautiful walk. Hard to believe you have so many castles and towers practically in your back yard!
You know, I've never read any of his stuff, which is something I need to correct !
And yes, we are a lucky here. This is quite close to our house, and on the walk I was explaining to my friends that someone actually owns a private castle very close to the hill. If we had walked further around we would have gotten a view over it !
Oh wow, that is awesome. Scott uses a lot of detail in his writing, so you need to muscle through that. Once you get into the story though, it's pretty enthralling.
A dream for me all these places I wish someday in my life I could visit these places so perfect.
Thanks - and best of luck with that. There are so many great places to see !

I love the autumn colors and how that beautiful tower is standing in the middle of the trees. Really cool.
Why did they choose to build a tower for Sir Walter Scott? Did he like to be high in the woods?
I'm glad you liked the pics. I'm not sure why the tower is located there specifically. Its right at the top of the hill and over looks the city, so it maybe something to do with that. But its also not the biggest monument to him here in Edinburgh. There is a huge monument right in the city centre called the Scott Monument, and allegedly its one of the biggest monuments in the world to a writer/poet ! I managed to find a pic I took of it last year sometime - thats it on the left ! I always think that it sort of looks like Thunderbird 3 (if you know what that is !).
