To me David isn’t real, he’s a conjuring of Stan’s state of mind. He’s a voice in Stan’s head, a voice that understands the addiction and Stan’s inability—he doesn’t have a “poker-face”.
I loved the way you played (hehe) this, the slow drawing of realisation, the water over the alcohol, the gamble that it takes to win. I ADORED this interpretation of the prompt and the punchline. Great writing.
