THGaming Brawl Report : Tier 3 vs Tier 2, comparing results after moving up into Tier 3. Is it worth it?

THGaming Brawlers - 7th in Tier 3 (ouch)

Not a super easy week for me in THGaming Brawlers where I got 4 Wins and 3 losses, still not a bad showing seeing as we have recently moved up to Tier 3 and some heavy competition. Some of our players performed well but we definitely got our butts kicked compared to how we used to place in Tier 2. Let's take a look and compare the winnings this week (7th) to how we did in Tier 2 two weeks ago week (1st).

Tier 2 vs Tier 3 winnings.

For those thinking about whether playing in Tier 2 or Tier 3 would best suit your Guild, let's have a quick look at the rewards we received in T3 as apposed to how we did last week in T2.

TIER 2 : 🏆 THGaming Brawlers (1st place) - The guild has won spoils of 55 Crowns in the latest brawl! Also, each fully participating member was awarded 3,094 Merits and 20.965 staked SPS.

TIER 3 : THGaming Brawlers (7th place) - The guild has won spoils of 50 Crowns in the latest brawl! Also, each fully participating member was awarded 2,500 Merits and 27.899 staked SPS.

As you can see, you win more $SPS for finishing in 7th place in Tier 3 than you do for coming in 1st in Tier 2 brawls, however the MERITS and Crowns are a little less. These $SPS winnings are dependent on how many of your players enter the brawl though, so you need to have active participation, preferably filling all of your brawl Freys if possible.

I'd recommend Tier 2 if brawl participation is a problem, or if your players don't have highly levelled cards and aren't willing to rent to be competitive. Tier 3 tends to put you up against some of the top Guilds in Splinterlands and these guys often own a lot more Max levelled Summoners and Monsters than in Tier 2. Tier 2 should be seen as a less serious brawl category for players who don't want to over think the game and play with a relaxed style. But overall, if $SPS is your goal, then moving up your brawl Tier level is a necessity.

My Frey-15 Brawl Performance

➡️ 27.9 $SPS for 7th place finish (Tier 3)

BRAWL DETAILS : I played Brawl Frey 15 (Silver Level, Goldfoil, Wild). I currently own 109 Goldfoil Splinterlands Cards.

With the addition of the new Soulbound Summoners and the new CONSCRIPT ABILITY & RULESET (which allows the use of one additional Gladiator card in League battles) Gladius Cards are a lot more valuable and Guild Brawls are the only way to earn MERIT POINTS used to buy these Gladius Packs! If you aren't in a Brawling Guild and want to start earning $SPS & MERITS, we'll happily Welcome you into the THGaming fam.

Reviewing Two Brawl Battles

Most readers don't have time to go through overly detailed posts, so I will summarize two battles below : 1 win and 1 loss, to figure out where I went wrong and where I chose correctly. If you have any questions or observations feel free to reply in the comments.

Jim-Crypto - Brawl Battle Review 1 (Win) : 28 Mana

RULESETS : Weak Magic, Melee Mayhem, Are you not Entertained?
Summoner Used : CONQUEROR JACEK *2
MVP : CONQUEROR JACEK *2 whose increased SPEED and PIERCING allowed my GRUM in particular to hit every single time!

image.png

>> View Battle 1 Here (28 mana) <<

image.png

THE FIGHT : A lovely battle for me to watch as GRUM FLAMEBLADE *2 (rented) worked his way through the team like a hot knife through butter. While you might argue that GRUM was the MVP, I'm certain that without the +2 Speed afforded to him by the Summoner CONQUEROR JACEK *2, GRUM would probably have missed a lot of hits against the super fast flier PELACOR CONJURER at the front of my opponent's team.

LESSON LEARNT : Speed often wins the day in Splinterlands and Summoners that provide increased speed can be the difference between winning and losing a battle. The RNG does need to be on your side though, as some days a fast team is unstoppable, and other times it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I'd say I had a stronger overall team however in this battle, but if GRUM had been taken down I would almost certainly have lost!

Jim-Crypto - Brawl Battle Review 2 (Loss) : 59 Mana

RULESET : Back to Basics, Explosive Weaponry, Weak Magic
My Summoner Used : ALRIC STORMBRINGER *3 (Rented)
MVP : ALRIC STORMBRINGER *4 (seen below) from my opponent. The insanely strong magic attack from my opponent ate up all of my cards and ALRIC was instrumental in their victory.

image.png

>> View Battle 3 Here (59 mana) <<

image.png

THE FIGHT : Looking at the Ruleset, 'WEAK MAGIC' meant that Magic damage would hit Armor first, so I placed two large 'Armor tanks' up front in case my opponent went for a strong magic attack. Often with the BACK TO BASICS and EXPLOSIVE WEAPONRY Rulesets, players will choose a strong magic attack, knowing that Monsters that would usually nerf magic with a VOID or PHASE Skill, will no longer have those abilities. However I underestimated the sheer strength of my opponents magic damage, and my two tanks got eaten up in no time at all!

LESSON LEARNT : When going up against strong magic attacks it's always advisable to try and Nerf the attacks in some way. In this case I could have used the Summoner THADDIUS BROOD (-1 Life, -1 Magic) or OWSTER ROTWELL (Magic Reflect) who I did have in my lineup to choose, but instead went for a strong WATER attack, which was unfortunately not as strong as my opponent's card selection. Having cards with 'Armor Repair' would have helped me out a lot, but in this case I was outgunned by a seriously powerful Magic attack.

@doomz is my 2nd Splinterlands account, which plays Brawls in THGaming 2 Guild, where I managed to get 8 Wins 0 Losses, the best possible result for that account!
