This Week's Topic: Fame
Fame, alongside money and power, is one of the most pursued desires of humanity—and who knows why—because fame isn’t all sunshine and roses, or at least that’s what I infer from others’ experiences.
Is There a Difference Between Being Popular and Famous?
Usually, a popular person is famous, but not all famous people are popular. So, we can establish that there are differences between the two.
Fame is more about the knowledge and recognition of a person, but it’s not always for good reasons. Let’s take Charles Manson as an example. Without a doubt, he is one of the most famous men of all time. Unfortunately, his fame isn’t for anything positive, so technically, he is infamous rather than famous—and he might even be popular among certain groups with questionable mental health, to put it mildly.
Then, we have popular figures who are famous. One that comes to mind is the host of an old Spanish-language TV show known as Don Francisco, who, besides being famous, also gained popularity.
In the English-speaking world, we could say that Keanu Reeves is both popular and famous because of his charitable work and the simplicity with which he lives.
Thus, fame implies the recognition of a person or thing, regardless of the reason, while popularity refers to the acceptance and affection that a famous person earns from the public.
What Do You Consider the Advantages and Disadvantages of Being Famous?
The advantages of being famous include invitations to exclusive events, gifts, recognition, preferential treatment, among others. On the other hand, the disadvantages include the loss of privacy, being constantly observed, and unscrupulous people approaching to try to gain some benefit.
When Would You Consider Someone or Something Famous?
Fame can be local, national, or international, so I’d say that someone or something is famous when they are known in any country of the world by a significant portion of the population.
There’s also the type of person who briefly becomes famous for absurd or bizarre actions or incidents. In my country, there have been several cases of fame without merit, but like all things without substance, they are forgotten as soon as a new figure takes their place.
The interesting thing about fame is that it doesn’t guarantee happiness, as we can gather from interviews, statements, and events involving very famous people who met a sad end, such as Michael Jackson, Robin Williams, or Demi Moore. Some sped up their deaths directly or indirectly, while others got lost in the world of addictions, despite having everything a person could want...
For this reason, more than ever today, parents must strengthen their children’s self-esteem and instill solid values and principles in them so they won’t get distracted by the supposed fame or popularity created by social networks. Such fame is fleeting and, at times, even deadly—there’s no shortage of cases.

I don't consider fame as something positive, it's a very personal opinion, I don't know if it's really worth losing your freedom and peace in exchange for a financial return.

I wonder the same, but people fight very hard to reach the fame, why, I don't know.

It depends on your field of activities.
As an artist, you can not avoid being famous if your talent pushes you to the top.
If I am a regular dude, it will be nice to stay in a normal style of life. In case, things change, it does not hurt to fly to Iceland cool off a year and come back.
You're are right in almost all, but remember that Bad Bunny is famous without talent! 😆 And so on, but it's true, a scientist will hardly be famous, at least not the majority of them!
Thanks for commenting! Sounds good to go to Iceland 😊
