My Splinterlands Card Collection Upgrades: Focus on Shades Of Gray Ruleset and Why I bought Junker

dividerHive2.png

On Splinterlands the season number 135 is underway and will end in about 9 days and 19 hours.

image.png

I am a Splinterlands player since September 2019 and to date I have played:

  • 8057 battles in the Modern Format
  • 25557 battles in the Wild Format

image.png

I enjoy playing the in-game battles but I also like to increase the battle strength of my card collection and although since the previous season I have also resumed playing in the Wild Format with my curation account for SPT tokens (libertygame27) my main interest and focus is and always will be on the cards that can be used in the Modern Format where there are no bots and no battle helpers but there are only real players like me.

image.png

In order to increase the battle strength of my card collection, I like to choose cards to purchase or upgrade based on different criteria.

Often to choose my purchase or upgrade goals I like to start with analysis of a precise ruleset considering the cards that can be used in that ruleset.

Today I share my purchase and upgrade choices related to cards that can be used in battles that have the Shades of Gray ruleset, which narrows the range of cards that can be chosen because only cards of the neutral element can be used in battle.

image.png

The number of cards that can be chosen in the Shades of Gray ruleset decreases even more for players like me who play in the Modern Format because only neutral element cards of the Chaos Legion, Riftwatchers and Rebellion sets can be used.

Excluding the soulbound cards there are only 35 neutral monster cards that can be used in the Modern Format

In the following image you can see the non-soulbound neutral cards I have in my collection.

image.png

In battles where the ruleset is Shades of Gray I often use Arkemis The Bear of level 10 in first position.
Arkemis The Bear has 4 abilities including the Protect ability that adds 2 armor points to all friendly monster cards.

image.png

In combination with cards that have armor points it is often useful to also use a card that has the Repair ability.

Today filtering neutral cards by ability on Peakmonsters I noticed that there are only 4 neutral monster cards that can be used in the modern format that have the Repair ability.

image.png
Screenshot from: https://peakmonsters.com/market

The cheapest neutral card with the Repair ability that can be used in the modern format is Level 1 Hireling Scavo which costs $0.036 but is a no-attack card.
Then there is Junker which acquires the Repair ability at level 6 (100 BCX) and costs 9.35$

image.png
Screenshot from: https://peakmonsters.com/market

Then there is Mantaroth who acquires the Repair skill at level 3 (6 BCX) and costs 226$

image.png
Screenshot from: https://peakmonsters.com/market

Then there is Grimbardun Smith who acquires the Repair skill at level 8 (115 BCX) and costs $392.50

image.png
Screenshot from: https://peakmonsters.com/market

Among the four purchase options, I chose to immediately purchase Junker of level 6 because:

  • he has the Repair ability and a melee attack = 3
  • it has the Reach ability and I can use it in second position in combination with Arkemis the Bear or Disintegrator or Legionnaire Alvar
  • has a relatively low cost compared to the Mantaroth and Grimbardun Smith options

By the way at the time of my purchase I found a price for BCX = $0.070 for level 6.

image.png
Screenshot from: https://monstermarket.io/

I spent a total of 9107.46 DEC (- 218.57 DEC cashback)

image.png
Screenshot from: https://monstermarket.io/

I now have Junker level 6 and will have an additional strategic choice that I can use in battles with the Shades of Gray ruleset.

image.png

Today, always thinking about the battles with the Shades Of Gray ruleset, I decided to make two more upgrades:

  • Supply Runner: level 1 -> level 8.
  • Magi of Chaos: level 3 -> level 6.

image.png

image.png

In this case, however, I made bid purchases to try to save a few dollars.

Any game that allows the purchase of NFTs and tokens is never just a game but is also an investment and should always be considered as such.
I am not a financial advisor and if you decide to invest in the Splinterlands game you do so by your own choice, after making your personal evaluations and after considering all possible risk factors.

My advice is to always invest only what you can afford to lose with a light heart!

image.png

image.png
Screenshot from: https://peakmonsters.com/market

image.png
Screenshot from: https://peakmonsters.com/market

image.png
Screenshot from: https://peakmonsters.com/market

image.png
Screenshot from: https://peakmonsters.com/market

image.png
Screenshot from: https://monstermarket.io/

Ho speso in totale 9107.46 DEC (- 218.57 DEC cashback)

image.png
Screenshot from: https://monstermarket.io/

image.png
Screenshot from: https://monstermarket.io/

  • Supply Runner: level 1 -> level 8
  • Magi of Chaos: level 3 -> level 6

image.png

image.png

Can you advise me on a squad for newbies?

It is not easy to recommend a team for a new user because there are so many cards and several factors to consider first:

  • wild or modern format
  • available budget
  • ...

Right now there are so many cards that have low rental and purchase prices and they are almost all Chaos legion edition cards.
So the advice I give to new players is to start with a collection of chaos legion edition cards ;)

Nice upgrades. Arkemis is a good card and getting a repair monster will work out quite well with that. Also, I like supply runner because of the swiftness.

Congratulations on the magic Choas and Supply runner. I don't have the Arkemis at all, but I've played against it in most neural battles. It's quite hard playing neutral in modern like you've mentioned. Sometimes the opponent or you could easily predict the potential lineup because of limited cards

Yes my friend you are absolutely right, the number of limited cards in the ruleset lead to limited choices
