Let's go eat some worms!

Watching guacamole being made in Mexico.

It was made in a big stone mortar and pestle, called a 'molcajete' . The rough surface of the volcanic rock makes grinding easier.

Start with some garlic, salt, and hot chili peppers.

Squeeze in some fresh lime juice.

Add ripe avacado

Mash everything together

Add some diced tomatoes, diced red onion, and some freshly chopped cilantro.

Eat on tortilla chips.

Customise to taste, perhaps adding cheese, cucumber, or more hot pepper, more salt?

And if you are feeling very adventurous, top it all off with some crunchy agave worms!

There are many kinds of gusano de maguey (Agave Worms), but usually only the Chinicuil Gusano is eaten. This “red worm.” is highly prized and expensive . They are actually not worms at all, but the larvae of the moth Comadia redtenbacheri. They're nutritious and considered a delicacy.

My daughter-in-law ate 3, but my son ate a dozen of them! They asked if I would eat them, and I said I would probably try one, as long as it wasn't wiggling. I might have to close my eyes though!

Have you ever eaten bugs or worms?

I have never tried eating a worm, don't feel like want to try it just yet, although we have some food that uses worm as the ingredient. : )
but I have tried bees, weaver ants, and some other insects.

I've seen this bug in a tequila liquor, Mezcal I think. A worm at the bottom of each bottle with a tradition for the last drinker gets to eat the bug.

My previous posts showed photos of a high end bottle of Mezcal. I was told they only add worms to bottles to be exported to the US!

Hi, @melinda010100 thank you for sharing this exquisite step-by-step of the preparation of a sauce so typical of Mexico, very good images, full of details.
As for your question, yes I have eaten insects in a preparation called Katara, it is a dark sauce usually with a spicy touch prepared by indigenous people of the Amazon Rainforest in Venezuela. The base or sustenance is the extract of a tuber called Yucca, to which they add spices to taste like salt, chives, and garlic among others and the final touch are the tails of large ants called "bachacos culones" Atta laevigata. To this sauce they attribute aphrodisiac properties, I have consumed it as a dressing and I have enjoyed its flavor, to enhance meals !LUV

I can't imagine eating a worm with it or anything else for that matter! I suspect I'll be looking for worms in guac in the future, lol, just to make sure there aren't any! Take care!🤗💜

Who knows what I ate in my life without knowing what it was (who knows what is in meat products, hot dogs or pâté 🙂).
So, if I had the chance, I would certainly, like your son, eat a full handful of this delicacy.
Since there are no such foods in the country I come from (unless someone sneaks in), I would add peanuts to your recipe instead of worms.
I have to try it, it sounds very interesting to me.

Guacamole is a common snack food here, often served with tortilla chips and eaten while watching sporting events on TV. It is served in Mexican restaurants and often accompanies entrees. Peanuts would be a good choice to add crunch!

Eating insects or worms is only a novelty here. It certainly isn't common! 😝

I would still rather put meat on it.

Have you ever eaten bugs or worms?

Probably not. Even if I have, it was not intentional. I am not planning to eat bugs and worms in the future either.

Currently I am not a bird. Maybe in another life. I know that they eat worms. And many of them eat other birds, mice/rats, rabbits and other animals.

Like every girl my age, I don't like vegetables, but this recipe looks very interesting, but I definitely wouldn't eat worms @melinda010100
In Corrientes where I live, Mexican food is trendy, especially tacos.

Thanks to the fact that my wife Gabriela loves avocados, we have eaten delicious meals from this vegetable, but to be honest, I don't think she could eat a worm.
What a beautiful experience your loved ones have had in Mexico.
Have a beautiful day dear friend @melinda010100

I wouldn't try to eat a worm no matter how nutritious it might be. But I would surely eat that guacamole. I have tried that before, though just a simple one. Yours looks more delicious.

Hi, @melinda010100!
I love spicy food, so your post seems great for the recipe I have never prepared. The hard part will be to find the caterpillar you say. could I prepare it with some earthworm, butterfly worm or I don't know, a red ant? ha ha ha ha ha.
I'd better put a lot of hot bell pepper in it.
The images are impeccable.
Greetings, my friend!

Mopani/Mopane worm is a delicacy in our region, not something I have tried yet, very high in protein found inland.

Flying ants (termites, ants with wings) another by removing wings, when eaten they say taste like butter, fried a nutty flavour, not actually friend more boiled till water is dried up. Have caught and frozen many flying ants to feed baby Drongo birds during the Spring season when blown out of nests.

These guacamole looks so delicious and enjoyable. I'll skip the bug though even if they're not wiggling. 😅 Are these bugs cooked? Did you try one? 😃 How is it like?

Thank you for sharing step by step way of making guacamole. 🙏
