The first hard freeze

We had our first hard freeze last week when temperatures dropped down into the 20s (-3C) and it ended the summer beauty that was still trying to hold on.

A strong breeze caused most of the colorful autum leaves to fall off the trees

This begonia is looking pretty sad today, but it provided gorgeous color on the deck all summer.

I'm probably going to reqret not pulling this Velvet Leaf that popped up in the flower bed, but the seed pods are so interesting that I left it there. It could prove to be a huge mistake if I see thousands of them taking over next spring.

After the frost the hostas are done for the season, but I take hope in knowing that they will come back next spring as lovely as ever!

The pots will need to be emptied onto the compost pile and then cleaned up and put away so that they are ready to be planted again next spring.

Although we will still have some mild days ahead, these are reminders to get prepared because winter is coming.

It is startling to see what damage one night of cold temperatures can do. I had already brought all the plants I wanted to save indoors. Now I only need to remember to water them all!

Thanks! Going out in the morning after the first night of cold temperatures is rather dramatic. One day the plants are green and growing, and suddenly they have all died.

I can't imagine a winter so strong, nor so cold. Where I live is very warm, even in winter. I'm sorry for the pretty plants that can't stand the cold.

They were beautiful all year. It was sad to see them killed by cold weather. 😢

It's a shame even though the flowers are very beautiful. Where I live, it's not winter that makes plants die, it's during the dry season.

The frost that roasts all our pretty summer flowers. Soon our turn will arrive after delaying the arrival of frost and rain continuously for 4 weeks. Thank you for sharing your summer garden.

All annual plants have died, but perennial plants will survive in the earth and reimerge in the spring when the snow melts. The circle of life in the northern latitudes!

Such a sad post. We've had a good freeze here too. Plus I caught a cold I am just getting over. Makes for a depressing start to the winter. But I'm feeling better today. And we are in pretty good shape for winter, most of the outside beds are cleaned up already.

Lepo je dočekati kraj jedne sezone. Budimo srećni da učestvujemo u novom prolećnom ciklusu. 🌞 Zanimljive fotografije koje dokumentuju promene u prirodi i životu. Hvala što ste ih podelili sa nama, @melinda010100!

It's always sad to see the first hard freeze when you have a beautiful yard like that! It's a lot of the reason I moved to Southern California. I got tired of East Coast winters!
