Huh, I bet I'd really like this book. I'm going to check the library and online book stores and see if I can snag a copy.

I reckon you would - it's a thoroughly enjoyable read, a nice change from some of the dry and academic tomes I've waded through in the past !
The Seven Years' War is poorly covered for such an important conflict.
Not to mention that it was pretty much the only war I can think of where British cavalry performed really well. John Manners, the Marquis of Granby had a lot to do with that, an inspirational leader and a genius at cavalry warfare. His men loved him, and he reciprocated.
He was colonel in chief of the Blues (Household Cavalry Regiment). It was an era where there were no pensions and most soldiers retired with nothing to look forward to. But every man honourably discharged from the Blues was bought a pub the Marquis so they'd have an income in retirement. Most of the men named their pubs after him, and there are still a lot called "The Marquis of Granby" - I know of at least 3 in London, plus others in Esher, Epsom and Redhill.
