It's not that old - founded in the 1870's with funding from Empress Eugenie of France. It's still active, and the monks keep bees as monks traditionally always have 😀

Well, maybe not that old for Europe but for the US - mighty old! Bee keeping - very fascinating and all the things you can make from the bees' work is amazing

lol, yeah - the US has packed a lot into just a few hundred years of history !

I always love to see the reaction when American friends come over and I act as "local guide" and take them to Stonehenge. The idea of a structure about 4000 years old just doesn't compute 😁

As for bees, they're my favourite insect. My grandfather kept them, and I make sure everything I plant in the garden is bee-friendly.
