Do you remember "Venus of the Rocks"? In today's post there is nostalgic music! I tell you all about Shocking Blue and the story of the Dutch singer Mariska Veres, who used her femininity as strength and weapon against a world dominated by men.

Shocking Blue, formed in the heart of Holland, changed protocol and climbed the charts with the hit "Venus." In 1967 they were a local band and barely appeared on the Dutch charts. After singer Fred de Wilde left for the army, the band invited Veres to fill the vacancy.

This new member would change the destiny of the band forever. Because women were seen as vulnerable objects and kept away from the harsh world of rock, Veres gave the band a unique style that is captured in the song Venus. Guitarist Robbie van Leeuwen. Here Veres becomes a brilliant and elusive artist. Veres also had a great impact on music and went down in music history for his aesthetic and appearance, which was adopted by many women around the world.

Other songs that made the band famous include "Never Marry a Raillord Man", "Mighty Joe" and "Demon Lover". However, the group disbanded in 1975 and Veres began a solo career, which failed to match the success of Shocking Blue. Veres formed The Shocking Jazz Quintet in 1993 and occasionally reunited with his former bandmates while on tour. Dutch Venus Venus was born on December 2, 2006, at the age of 59, while battling cancer.

Let's remember the lyrics to "Venus" and remember when Shocking Blue hit the radio. "Goddess of the mountain tops, of beauty and love, and the top of Venus shone like a silver flame. She had a name (...) Well, I am your Venus, I am your fire, I am your desire"
