Many spent years living in major big cities feeling their friendly-afflicted actions were not only unreciprocated, they were annoying, even offensive. If smiling at someone, then they were regarded as creepy. If holding the door to someone, then it was because they wanted something. Their personality and manners often felt as if they were wrong.
I believe doing nothing is a thing very hard to do. Because way too often you never know when you're finished. And the clock hanging on the wall always shows the same time.
