Cycling | Off-road: Almost got in a mud

Hi friends!
Taday being the first (1st) of May, 2023, is a public holiday. It is workers day. Both private and government organisations and schools did not operate. Workers must have been very happy having their holiday in the middle of the week. To be sincere, I forgot about it all that was in my head was it was a new month and many people wont be at work like it usually occurs in my locality.

The road was free and my legs were heavy. I got on my bike and paddled as fast as possible. The road had a gentle downward slope and I was moving real fast. After a long ride, I took a detour—off-road.
The route was suffered erosion, bushes and farmlands on bothe sides, few houses, bumbs and finally mud. I believe that paddling faster would ease movement. The faster the bettter. I was on using second gear in front and last gear on the rear. With the speed, I swiftly took a left turn and boom mud right in front of me.

My brakes saved me. What would have happened if I had wek breaks? I held my left brake tightly and slowly queezed the front brake to a complete stop (to avoid being thrown over). This left a trail over six (6) feet long on the path. If i had gotten into the mud with such speed I would likely fall or get dirt all-over.

On a second thought I whispered to myself in my mind, ‘you would look cooler with the mud dirt’ 😁😁 Crazy me, imagining how those Off-road bike racers look like

Shadow of me on my bike after the sharp braking.
What do you think about my riding skills? What would you have done on this track if you were racing with friends? Would you have ridden by the farmland or stopped like I did? Share your comment.

It's either brake or hols your steer and go full speed through the mud. Something in between will probably cause you to fall.
