I joined Hive for Splinterlands, and then slowly started to write articles. I discovered LeoFinance and other communities, but never engaged at full capacity. It took over two years to truly understand that the HIVE blockchain innovated gaming, social media and Web3 !

What is Hive?

Hive is a Delegated Proof of Stake blockchain that hosts a wide range of dApps and tokenised communities. It uses $HIVE as digital currency, and has free transactions. The Delegated Proof of Stake is an alternative to the Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanisms for blockchains.

The DPoS system allows Hive to continue scaling into the best blockchain for Web3 social dApps and games. There is no mining involved as the blocks are produced based upon the number of coins that are staked.

What makes Hive the best alternative for widespread crypto adoption? The fast and fee-less transactions, with a future-proof resource-bandwidth, lightning-fast processing times, battle-tested for 5 years by hundreds of dApps, communities, and projects around the world!

What is $HIVE?

The blockchain actually has three different cryptocurrencies: HIVE , Hive Power (HP) and Hive Backed Dollars (HBD). Even if $HIVE is the native cryptocurrency and governance coin of the Hive blockchain, all three have an important role into the synergy and power of the ecosystem.

Users will stake HIVE for the voting power, which can be used for decentralized governance, content curation and the development of a truly censorship-resistant network. The holders will elect witnesses to operate a Hive server which produces new blocks and keeps the overall network running and secure.

Hive Power is $HIVE that has been staked by the user, and it gives the ability to endlessly transact for free on the Hive blockchain. Endlessly transact for free? Hive Power acts as the access token for the network and grants the "right" to write into the database.

The unstaking process takes 13 weeks, with 1/13 of the amount being unlocked each week, when the user's governance and curation slowly becomes lower. From an economic perspective, the stakers are investors!

The Hive Backed Dollar (HBD) is the stablecoin of the Hive blockchain, as each $HBD can be converted into $1 worth of $HIVE. HBD promotes the decentralization of the Cryptoverse, with no company backing the cryptocurrency.

My HIVE Journey!

I joined on the 26th of December 2020 to play Splinterlands, than slowly discovered the Dapps and communities that focused on finance, cryptocurrencies and blockchain solutions! Since then I explored other games, plenty of communities and frontends such as PeakD, Leo Finance, Ecency or SlothBuzz.

Since then I earned some badges, and completed some achievements, but I still feel it is much left to be done before unlocking the full potential! I have a D.Buzz Badge for being awesome, another one for being a PIZZA holder and a Referrer badge for inviting 10 people!

I love the little awards from Hive Buzz, and I can easily track my progress. I now have over 1400 crypto related articles published on Hive, and bunch of replies, upvotes and comments! I even got some special badges from events such as Christmas, Valentines Day and my first ever LPUD!

Splinterlands** **was my gateway into HIVE, pushed by the desire to see the play2earn game that everyone was highly speaking. In few minutes I created my account and bought the Spell Book, and started my journey into the unknown!

The game allows players to earn tokens and NFTs that have real value. Some Splinterlands** **cards are worth insane amount of money, and the demand will grow bigger as the supply gets lower.

Splinterlands is the best place to enjoy NFT powered card battles, to trade and earn in-game rewards and have fun with friends. The game is available for both desktop and mobile phones!

My deck keeps growing month by month and I am getting closer to my personal challenge... opening 100 packs! The Splinterlands journey continued in May, with more brawls, treasure chests, packs and another glorious season!

I started the challenge on the 27th of March 2022, and one year later I am still chasing a dream. As it goes... I will hopefully complete the task by the end of 2023! Got some top cards, mainly from Gladius Packs!

Blinding light came out from one of them .... with legendary sunshine from Sola Ranjell! She came to the Splinterlands on the brightest night of the year ... the alignment of moons. Her powers are amplified by the two-bladed staff with burning light.

This will sound funny but I was playing Splinterlands for over two years and never done Brawls until December 2022. Not much by choice but because I was guildless. Brawls are large tournaments in which Guilds fight together against other Guilds, so my allegiance to one was mandatory.

Playing in brawls helped me to earn Merits, which I spent on Gladius Cases. This is how I boosted my deck power and started collecting gladiator cards. It's a double win as Gladiator monsters are more powerful then normal cards, but are SoulBound. This cards can be played only in brawls, and can't be traded, delegated, rented, or sold.

Only one Gladiator card can be selected for a battle, but is no limit of the number of Gladius Cases that can be purchased in the Guild Store. The normal potions don't work for Gladius Cases, but they count towards the Collection Power score. All the 32 Gladius card have the Bloodlust ability, earning +1 to all initially non-zero stats per defeated opponent.

I constantly upgraded my deck and the daily rewards are sometimes full of unexpected treasures. In the last two years I managed to get a decent pack, and get some gold foils on the way! The gladiator golden foil are extremely powerful, easily changing the outcome of a battle.

The Splintershards, aka $SPS tokens, changed Splinterlands dynamics into something bigger and better. The cryptocurrency governance token was integrated to provide increasing levels of decision-making ability and control over the product to the player-base, asset ownership, and the stakeholders.

The Splinterlands tokens have governance purpose through the in-game governance voting system, as players holding staked SPS tokens are able to vote for or against different proposed changes to the game and ecosystem. Each staked $SPS is worth one vote, so a player will be able to take part in decentralized governance based on the amount of SPS tokens staked.

Four hundred millions from the total token supply, approximately 13.33%, were airdropped to players based upon the amount and type of Splinterlands assets in their account. I received my fair share during the distribution period, and I take part and vote for every snapshot available!

I even tried SplinterForge, another play2earn game built on the Hive blockchain. The new game uses the same NFTs from Splinterlands but with a different approach.

This game reminds me of Global Raid Bosses on World of Warcraft, as any player can join the battle against over-powered monsters. Every damage inflicted to the boss will be deducted from the total HP, and the fight goes on until he/she is dead.

Earn rewards for fighting bosses ... but wow it works? The cards owned in Splinterlands can be used in the Splinterforge game, and the team of monsters and summoners are led into battle by a "Hero". You can name your hero, go for warrior or wizard, and enhance his skills with items and artifacts.

Each boss has different abilities, and the players will earn Forgium ($FORGE) for fighting bosses. The top 100 heroes on the leaderboard when the boss finally falls will earn extra rewards. Do you have what it takes to beat the bosses?

As a crypto content creator, I found LeoFinance mind-blowing! A platform where I could create content immutability and take advantage of tokenized engagement!

This has turned out to be one of the best competitions I took part! I am working hard to maintain in the top 50 users, and grab a share of the prize pool! One week to go and I am on the 40th place in the leaderboard, only 10 places into the prize pool! I need to push it hard this week and consolidate my position!

However, I didn't succeeded to become an mainstream creator on Leo and got more success on SlothBuzz! This frontend and community on the Hive blockchain helps small creators like me grow. I am slothy slow and unpopular... so I found a new home!
