Sardines and Hedgehog (fable)

Sardines and Hedgehog

One day Hedgehog found canned Sardines,
There was a jar lying in the grass.
He deftly opened and sniffed it,
Aroma was truly amazing!

"What a delicacy! - thought Hedgehog. -
How can I keep it for a long time?"
And then the thought came to him,
What is the best way to hide Sardines on tree.

So Hedgehog climbed on the tree,
He put jar on branch and jumped to the ground.
But he was careless and forgetful,
An hour later he no longer remembered about Sardines.

A month later, when Hedgehog came to his senses,
He anxiously climbed a tree to find jar,
But it was too late, Sardines disappeared!
Hedgehog regretted that he had not eaten everything.

And here is the lesson from this fable:
Don't put off until tomorrow what you have today,
Eat everything immediately, right now.
It's better to suffer from overeating,
Than from strong disappointment in life.

The original text was written by me in Russian. I haven't studied English systematically, so translation may not be ideal. The main work was done by Google Translate, I just corrected obvious absurdities, where I noticed them and where I did not confuse them with brilliant insights.
