Battle Mage Secrets - Fighting Against A Level 7 Summoner

image.png

The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is Stampede this time! This means Trample will retrigger infinitely as long as the trampling unit keeps killing other units. Prime use case for Summoner Possibilus the Wise.

It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! This time I was lucky enough to have one - woohoo!

So here's the interesting battle that I encountered.

Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is a Common Life card, Imperial Knight!
image.png

Imperial Knight one of the few Soulbound cards that deserves a mention. With Void Armor, the 7 mana technically packs 14 HP and still has 2 Melee damage. How strong is that? Sometimes it makes me wonder how this is a Common card. Haha. That said, it's not a commonly used card these days and most people tend to favour Drybone Barbarian, which is also an equally strong card in its own right. Hopefully this battle will give you a glimpse of how strong Imperial Knight is as a tank.

As usual, here's the lore for Imperial Knight for your reading interest:

In the Order of the Silver Shield's knighthood, Royal Leonines are sometimes referred to as Imperial Knights because of their regal appearance and excellence on the battlefield. They wear the heavy plate armor of the Silver Shield, and most carry greatswords in combat, although some prefer warhammers, spears, and other two-handed weapons.

Entire platoons and companies are often comprised of this imperious race, and they are a formidable force when employed in defense of the Kingdom of Khymia. Imperial Knights are renowned for their tenacity and indomitability, and they will fight to the last lion rather than retreat or surrender.

Battle Type & Team Lineup

PositionCard/LevelMana
SummonerFranz Ruffmane6

I went out of depth for this battle because the rulesets were pretty restrictive, and my stronger decks in Water and Dragons were disallowed. The Thorns ruleset ruled out the usage of Fire cards so in the end, I decided to go with Franz Ruffmane and field a Life deck with Gladius card.

PositionCard/LevelMana
1Imperial Knight7

Imperial Knight has very tanky Armor stats and it meant being able to withstand a couple of rounds of Thorns. I needed a strong tank and this was my best choice excluding Legendary cards.

PositionCard/LevelMana
2Warrior Of Peace7

Warrior Of Peace took the second place because of its strong HP and the Demoralise will weaken my opponent's Melee cards.

PositionCard/LevelMana
3Time Meddler8

Time Meddler is quite a mixed card, for big mana matches, it got the pick. With just 2 Magic damage, it's not that strong but good enough.

PositionCard/LevelMana
4Djinn Renova7

Djinn Renova is one of the best team player in the Life Deck. With Strengthen, everyone gets 1 precious HP more and that can proved crucial at times.

PositionCard/LevelMana
5Captain Katie7

Captain Katie is where all my hopes are placed on. If luck comes our way, a couple of Bloodlust will be enough to transform the card in a monster.

PositionCard/LevelMana
6Prismologist8

Prismologist has impressed in the few battles that she featured, that 3 Ranged damage plus 2 extra Blast damage can be very powerful.

  • Pre Battle: These days, I am more or less used to these lopsided matches. A Level 2 summoner fighting against a Level 7 summoner? Haha. There was no way I was going to win this, unless there is a miracle. Let's see what happens.
    image.png
  • Round 1: We are off to a good start, with the opponent's tank being taken out by Magic damage. Imperial Knight held up with its strong stats and we have one card advantage. Will there be a miracle?
    image.png
  • Round 2: This battle just went on a fast forward mode this round, with 3 cards taken down. I lost my Prismologist due to my opponent's Sneak attacks and Imperial Knight finally was breached by my opponent's high damage output. Back to 4 vs 4.
    image.png
  • Round 3: It was clear after this round that I was not going to make it. My damage output was lacking because it was suppressed by my opponent and my Gladius card wasn't getting Bloodlust again. Down to 3 vs 4 and losing was just a matter of time.
    image.png
  • Round 4: Even though we were losing, my team kept pushing and it was 3 vs 3 at the end of the round. Still at a disadvantage but it was a brave effort.
    image.png
  • Round 5: 5 rounds have gone this Level 7 summoner team still hasn't won this match. At this point, I was just in awe of the brave fight put up by my team.
    image.png

  • Round 6: How on earth is this happening? I am still going after 6 rounds. Captain Katie gained a consolation Bloodlust. Will it prove to be enough to pull off a miracle?
    image.png

  • Round 7: Almost out due to the Reflection Magic from my opponent but that's 7 rounds and counting!
    image.png

  • Round 8: We lost eventually but it was a brave, brave effort.

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? I put out a strong lineup but unfortunately, my cards were suppressed and without a doubt, my opponent had way stronger cards, and it was already an achievement to last 8 rounds and pushing all the way and clearing 4 cards from my opponent.

What's the Battle Mage Secret? Even though I didn't win, I pushed my opponent all the way. The secret is, it's not always about the level of cards. I have won many teams using high level cards with just my Bronze deck and it's all about thinking and strategising, and more practice of course!

So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!
